Memories

Someone sings softly
in my ear,
Songs of love found and of love lost.
Songs so sweet and filled with joy,
my heart soars with pleasure.
Songs so sad and filled with loneliness,
tears threaten to fall.
Soon, the voice fades,
and the tears dry,
and all that’s left
is memories.

Soon again the voice sings its song:
Living in a life of darkness,
trying to hold onto the threads of a past life,
walking a road that’s empty,
a sword through a heart with graceful wings.
All in my memories.

Lives pass by,
Leaving me behind,
as my immortal soul wafts through the black abyss.
Wars have passed,
and lives have fled.
I have seen all of this in a blink of an eye.
I have seen love and hate,
peace and war,
and the infants grow into children,
the children grow into adults,
and the adults grow old and die,
only to be reborn.
All lies here in my memories.

But not I,
who chose a life of loneliness
and was sent into the darkness
for life's love and love's loss.
So keen it was
that I begged
for their return and threw myself
into that darkness for their safety,
in this story from my memories.

I watched my love grieve and live anew,
and again find love,
true and strong.
I saw the children they had
and the love that they shared.
Soon they grew old and ended their lives
in love as I had,
though I had died alone.

Now I come to you because,
finally, I have found a love for me to share.
So I will leave this to you for great care,
This great story in my memories.

Soon the voice fades,
and the tears dry,
and all that’s left
is memories.

Excellent poem. I've never been big on poetry: a Yeats here, Tennyson there. Nothing of a big fan to poetry but I was pretty impressed by this.

1 Chelsea R. Doop replies: "Why, thank you! I appreciate it !!! Take a cookie! *holds out basket of cookies*"

That is such a great and sad story! I love it! You can work with words in such a fantastic way! I am even a bit jealous! Great work! Maybe you should write poems more often?

:-) Chelsea R. Doop replies: "Thank you so much!2 Well I have tried to write more but it just wouldn't come out right... Oh well, one day something will come to me."

You can feel the longing this woman had. It was beautifuly done it's made me feel all soft and gooey inside y'know?

Nice. *Thumbs up*

:-) Chelsea R. Doop replies: "I have succeeded in making someone all soft and gooey inside! YESSSS!!! WOOT WOOT! heh."

*speechless* I have nothing more to say...or not say, except for one thing...I think you should write more poems instead of stories, although ur stories are truly remarkable. I mean, if ur stories were royal, then ur poems are godly! ^_^

:-) Chelsea R. Doop replies: "Godly... Wow. *sighs dreamily* T'would be quite a wondrous thing... *clears thoat* uhm... yes, anyway, thank you so much for that! I love the praise I've gotten for this. Now I'm writing a story on it which is turning out to be quite longer than I intended... And slowly. So, so slowly because of school and everything. I don't see how some people do it! "

Sad, but beautiful. I think you did a good job it is like someone is telling a story through a poem. I never really read much poetry, but i liked this.

:-) Chelsea R. Doop replies: "OH! Yes! Another one! Maybe I should write more poetry. Hook... Line... And sinker! Another poem caught the attention of others! YUS!!!!!Kay. I'm done. Glad you liked it!"

Such a moving poem, Chelsea. The imagery you used was beautiful. I'm truly impressed.

:-) Chelsea R. Doop replies: "Oh thank you! I've gotten such wonderful feedback for this and I'm so proud of it... Thanks so much!"

Chelsea, I really enjoyed reading your poem. I could sense the deep emotion of the ghost, watching those she loved love someone else, grow old, and eventually die, and watching love all around, but feeling empty and alone. Great poem!!

Chelsea, I really enjoyed reading your poem. I could feel the feelings of the ghost, watching those she loved love someone else, grow old, and eventually die. Great poem!!

:-) Chelsea R. Doop replies: "Oh, I'm so glad everyone likes this. It's probably one of my favorites and I want to get it published one day. One can only hope!"

Great poem, I can't believe I hadn't read it until now. I love the rhythm, it's just long enough to feel like each verse is a diary entry or something like. I loved "in a blink of an eye," and from then on the events start moving faster.

:-) Chelsea R. Doop replies: "*eyes widen noticeably* Oh my! How did you find this place?! *runs around sweeping up cobwebs* I'm so sorry for the mess! Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment though! *sighs happily* You're the first in a while. Well, besides Musty, but that's not the point. Thank you so much! It's so nice to have new commenters! *hugs Dan* Just for stopping by, you get one of my rare gigantic chocolate chip cookies!"
