What would you do if you were the last man on Earth...? |

I drift through empty streets
watching the slow dissolution
of everything once treasured.
Diamonds glitter in the windows
at Tiffanys. Weeds grow up
through the cracks in the
pavement. In the childrens'
playground see-saws and swings
lie still. Everywhere the
silence echoes through the
crumbling brownstone canyons
and I know I am alone.
The harbour is clean
for the first time in centuries
clean salt air, the water
teems with fish. I hunt
for my supper. The last
man returns to the ways
of the first man again.
I saw a passenger
pigeon on the roof of
the Public Library,
I swear it was.
Soon they will darken
the skies again.
