This depicts Earendil slaying Ancalagon the Black, the greatest of the Winged Dragons, in the Last Battle above Angband, when Morgoth is finally defeated by the Valar, from J.R.R.Tolkiens, “The Silmarillion”. It occurs just before dawn, amidst the furious battle between the Eagles and the other dragons.
