That's the pic and pose and everything that I wanted to do of you...but noooooo...now, I have you as a fairey...well at least your body is there...working on your face. Strange how looking in the mirror of myself trying to imagine your face on the canvas...lol. Excellent pencil work Courtney...I amjust amazed at how you work this medium so beatifully... Courtney Weger Cantrell replies: "Well, Mart, I happened to be looking through old art stuff from high school the other day...And I discovered that what I thought were masterpieces 8 years ago are actually somewhat mediocre. So all I can say is, practice is definitely the way to go. Maybe you should hold the praise until I'm 80, so I can use the intervening years as opportunity for improvement. LOLAs for the pic you're doing of me......I am still *totally* excited to see it! And a fairy is a great idea! I love fairies--my email address could just as well have been iwishiwereafae. ;o) Besides, here's a secret: I didn't draw this from my imagination. I copied it from a photo that Ed took of me in the...um...less modest part of my Halloween costume. The complete costume covered a lot more skin, of course!!! ;o)" | |
| 28 Nov 2002 | Martin Vire | Loading...Wow, I would have to say this is your best work to date (that I have seen). The textures and technique on the(your) hair and especially the coverlet are startlingly good. Hard to convey "diaphanous" convincingly but you've done a lovely job here. A shining example of the word "Hottie" I thought you were "Queen of the Amazons" though...now a dryad? Poor identically confused girl... Courtney Weger Cantrell replies: "Hey, Amazon Queens can be dryads, too. One does not necessarily exclude the other, you know. ;o) Oh man, the hair. I'm finding that I really like the results when I do hair in pencil...but the process, the laborious, tedious process from start to finish...ugh. It's mind-numbing. I really enjoyed doing the transparent fabric, though. At first, I was scared to death of it because I didn't really know what I was doing...But after I got into it, it was fun. "Diaphanous," huh....You better be careful using big words around me, Vire. It might turn my head. LOL" | |
| 4 Dec 2002 | Anneke Hut | Loading...The fabric is stunning! You have given her such a difficult pose and managed to get it so perfectly on paper. Wow it's really magnificent!! Courtney Weger Cantrell replies: "Well, Anneke, like I told Mart above, I have to confess that the pose, at least, wasn't all that difficult. I copied it from a photo that Ed took of me, so that helped out a lot. ;o) I just don't work well without photo references. What helps my self-esteem is the reminder that the masters never worked without models, either. ;o) Thanks for the visit and the lovely comments, Anneke!" | |
| 5 Dec 2002 | Patricia Lynn Middleton | Loading...Mucha? Quite inspiring, ne c'est pas? Lovely hair and material. This reminds me of you...something in the expression and eyes. Courtney Weger Cantrell replies: "I am so thankful that Mucha existed. Very inspiring, indeed. ;o) Thanks, Patricia, for saying this looks like me. I'm still not satisfied with the eyes and lips--there's something about them that's not quite *me*...but this is still miles better than any previous self-portrait. ;o) Glad you liked it, though!" | |
| 19 Sep 2003 | Anonymous | Loading...Her hair is so intricately done...what can I say? It's exquisite! Courtney Weger Cantrell replies: "I'm quite late in replying to this, but.....thanks very much for the visit and for the compliment on this piece!" | |
| 5 Nov 2003 | Kelly M. Fretwell | Loading...Wow...thats AMAZING! I love everything about it! The lettering is so cool! And the hair...*gazes in wonder*...that must've been hard! You make it look so easy, though! And it looks so much like you! (from the pictures you have on here of yourself) Super job! ~Kelly! Courtney Weger Cantrell replies: "Please forgive the lateness of this reply..... Yes, the hair was quite difficult...but in the end, it was simply a matter of patience and effort. Curls really aren't that difficult, if one is willing to give oneself over completely to the execution of excruciatingly minute detail. ;o) Thanks for the visit and the compliments!" | |
| 30 Dec 2003 | Jezebel | Loading...I am an artist, but I love to see how other people view things. I would love to have someone do a portrait of me. I love drawing people. I would love to set up page on elfwood, but I don't know how. Beautiful! Both the picture and you. Courtney Weger Cantrell replies: "Please forgive the lateness of this reply..... I very much appreciated your visit and the time you took to share your thoughts! If you're still interested in setting up a page on Elfwood but haven't done it yet, you can find more information on the Elfwood homepage: elfwood.lysator.liu.se/elfwood.html Once you're there, look in the links list on the left side of the page, click the one that says "Join us," and follow the instructions. Have fun!" | |
