Odd to see no other comments on this one because, maybe because of its very simplicity, it kind of stands out from the rest of the gallery...
Whether it is deliberate or not, I find that and the composition adds to the iconic nature of the character-arquetype, as well as the otherworldly hair, half-way between art noveau and a shadowy medusa, pulsing with an night-marish life of its own, barely kept on lead (or maybe she just don't care about hairstyle...) The constrast between black and white seems an appropiate color scheme for a moon goddess... I wonder if a dark background -the night sky or whatever- would enhance the effect or not... anyway,I like it the way it is. I'm somewhat puzzled about the angle for the -reserved, defiant, or maybe just above us puny humans- face, though, although considering the empty eyes it could well be a (ivory? silver?) statue or a mask -again, it works with this one- (yeah, the kind that 'held illimitable dominion over all'...after the hair has finally engulfed the night sky, that is) Geez, I swore I would never indulge in that kind of gratuitious and pedantic ellaborate comment... granted, it's a bit overdone, but at least it doesn't include, you know, verses or something... -grins-
It also sort of reminds me of some european BW book illustrations or F&SF pulp-pop magazines/fanzines...
Just my two cent(urie)s...
