Understand, this isn't any work of art really, it's just something I sorta randomly typed up in about a minute without knowing what I was gonna write, and it turns out it had a theme I expanded on. I wrote some prose to accompany it: You see the bright side? Of course you do. You ARE the bright side; you're on fire, burning, cremating yourself away into nothing; but look, you are so bright, so lovely in your colorful, sanguine flames! You say, look at the bright side? Thank you, that's too bright for me; I'll let you stare into the sun and waste your eyes away. You see the bright side? Yes, of course you do; it's right in front of you; you've been staring at it all your life! what do you mean, no? You say you can see nothing??? Ah. I know what has happened now. You have stared at the sun so long that you have made yourself blind.

What to say that has not been said?

What rhyme to rattle that has not been read?

You stare at the sun and cannot look away

It holds your eyes in its blinding rays

And you don't know where you're going,

Spinning away from all reality;

It is the light that blinds you

It blinds you from yourself

But all you know is your own world.

You stare at the sun and cannot look away,

I stare at my feet and live the day.

The light impales you on oblivion

And pitiless, the ancient sun

Scars you with your own naivety.

So where do you go, what do you make of yourself?

The smile is worn, the joke is old.

You stare at the sun and cannot look away

I swallow my doubts and live the day.

Hmmmm. I'm not really sure what to say. I guess a person can do too much dreaming. An awesome poem. The rhythm and rhyme were terrificAuthor's response: It's not really about too much dreaming... there's nothing wrong with that, really... it's more about the people who are so optimistic that they don't see reality, or who aren't willing to accept the dark things in life because they're frightening; they would rather walk around with sunny smiles plastered on their faces, feigning happiness to the extent that they can't see their own problems anymore.

Ahh. A natural cynic. I like you already. Only... Only... (playing devil's advocate) Some people can't help but be overly optomistic. Speaking with the mind of experience, some people do it as a defence mechanism, a way to get away from the pain in their lives. They do so to ignore the bad, so that they cannot see the blunders and mistakes, lessening their depression and internal pain. Humans evolve in their own microcosmic way, all different, all unique. Human facades are as random as... the stars in the sky. Over-optomism is one, silence is another, anger and hostility is still another, the list goes on and on. I prefer to look at my shoes, swallow my pride. But I've seen others just like me look to the sky for strength, and lose themselves to falsities.

I really like the message in this one. "You stare at the sun and cannot look away" I know many people to whom that would apply.

The lines about 'staring at the sun' really touched me. It seems sort of sad; I intrperate it as talking about un-lived dreams, but that just my thoughts on it. Very well written poem, though. Keep up the good work!
