The companion piece to 'Aki', here is a male merman with an orca-based design brandishing a Chinese halberd. I've been experimenting with Prismacolor markers and white ink over tinted Bristol board and I really like this effect. This piece will be featured at AnimeFEST! in Dallas over Labor Day weekend.

I LOVE mermen!! They're so great! And I like the idea you had of giving him Orca-colouring, because it makes more sense than most mermaids who have fish tails (as whales are mammals, just like people are). Both kinds of mermaids are still cool, though. Again, the pic is simply beautiful!

His body seems so fluid and beautiful, and that expression is priceless. Magnificent work!

Whoa, can we say coincidence? He looks awesome, and full of life. Orcas are my favorite animals and I've also done many orca and dolphin merpeople. But being a biological nitpic I'd have to say his markings are very different than an actual orca. A real orca has distinct eye patches and a white trident shape on the belly followed by a dorsal saddle of white as well, but thats just anatomy technicality.
Chances have it a starring character in one of my stories is an orca guy (Lynce), and he's in quite a few pics in my gallery. Anyway I'm glad to see there is another orca merguy out there in the seas of elfwood. Again, neat character.

He looks like an orca whale! No, that’s not a fat joke.
