I was thinking of Paradise Lost and Frankenstein, but mainly I was thinking of Pandora Unplugged, a way awesome play written by some highschool chick in Salt Lake. I was lucky enough to see it performed.

Did I solicit thee?

Mould from me Clay,

Banish into darkness Man.

Did I ask thee, Maker?

Bound on the breaches of Paradise,

The unborn soul, lost.

Unplugged, to this end.

Was I born for this purpose

Was I brought into being?

A help meet to thy Master

Mould me Clay

From Darkness to promote.

Me.

To this end was I born?

Was I born?

Was I born for this purpose?

For this purpose was I brought into being?

Was I brought into being?

To serve my master

And unwittingly bring destruction

To this Earth

Would they believe me if I did?

I don't know why, but you brought Goethe's Faust to my mind:

Ich bin der Geist, der stets verneint!
Und das mit Recht; denn alles, was entsteht,
Ist wert, daß es zugrunde geht;
Drum besser wär's, daß nichts entstünde.
So ist denn alles, was ihr Sünde,
Zerstörung, kurz das Böse nennt,
Mein eigentliches Element.

:-) Camilla 'Motone' Whitney replies: "Faust eh? I've always wanted to see that. Unfortunately I haven't yet. If I can scrounge up a lot of money and a ride to Salt Lake, they're doing it at Utah Opera this year... If only..."

I'm in love with the first stanza. The voice in that thing is just haunting... Excellent ending line, on the same note. *nods in agreement with self*

To be honest, though, the second stanza did sorta bug me. Seemed repetitious, both in actually wording and content... I thought that stuff was already said in the first stanza, or at least, I thought I thought that... O_O

Overall, though, I like it. A lot. Beautiful, in a desperately haunting sorta way...

:-) Camilla 'Motone' Whitney replies: "I think the purpose of the second stanza was to see the many different ways "To this end was I born, for this purpose was I brought into being" could be read. I mean, I certainly overdid it. But I don't really care too much at the moment... perhaps someday I'll try to change it. ^_^

This was written within a day or two of "Imprisoned to this Earth" which is indicated by the similarity in tone.

Thanks for commenting, O Wonderful Muffin Girl."
