I: Black Blood

Black blood gushes forth

Revealing at last

How corrupt

Red blood is average

Blue, aristocratic

So what is black?

Is it not just a darker blue

For a more refined intellect?

Black blood alone signifies

The pure horror that

Lies within

Black with shame

Black with guilt

Black with hate

Blackly built

Black within

Black without

Blacker pain

Blackest bout

Can I help it?

It’s in my blood…

II: The Ring

The dark glimmer of intelligence,

A light inside the darkened stone—

beckons to me;

Sweet seductive burgundy on gold.

Only too late do I realize

That the voice I hear coming from the gem

Is too desperate and too powerful…

And the burning light it holds inside—

Is hellfire

The ring holds me in its grasp

Encircling my finger like a cuff

It will never let me go.

III: Cursed

I hear my soul’s eternal refrain

Filled with power, glory and fame

With my mind I fooled

With their pain I ruled

But now I am brought to my shame

All my fears are yet undaunted

And my mind forever haunted

With this sad curse I now live

Of everything I once wanted

I only want now myself to forgive.

IV: The Rose

She tells me my time will come soon enough

She will go down with me

On her mortal petals sleeps the reek of death

Only time will open it to me.

She spirals in her orb

Indifferent to my pain

She holds my life in her essence

To infuse ugliness with beauty,

That is her cause

She has already accomplished it in herself

Her fate is mine

The Rose and I

Are One.

V: Ephemeral Beauty

The red dims

Echoes of life

Memories of life

Endings of life,

Sour refrains of lost love—

broken trust.

and left alone to die.

Ephemeral Beauty.

VI: Coexistence

On different planes of existence

Gold and red

Full of beauty, full of dread

Can two such opposites

Really coexist?

Or would the existence of one end

With the end of opposition?

:-) Camilla 'Motone' Whitney replies: "Er, thanks Will! Interesting comment... hehe ^_^"

Very good, each of the poems is distinct, yet they all unite a common theme. The voice of the beast is very believable. Good use of free verse and rhyme.

You can almost hear the growling undertone of the words.

:-) Camilla 'Motone' Whitney replies: "Growling undertone, eh, E? This one is actually rather old... but yeah, that was irrelevant. Thanks."

Can’t say I’m much of a poem person (actually, I’m a self-proclaimed hater of poems), but this wasn’t bad. You’ve got a unique style that I haven’t seen in any other poem I’ve forced myself to digest. (Sorry... I really am not a poem person... ~_~ I’ll read one of your stories to make up for this utterly craptacular comment)

:-) Camilla 'Motone' Whitney replies: "It's ok, I used to hate poetry too. ^_^ Then I was forced to write it... and it led to stuff like this... And Yai for craptacular stuff! ^_^"

This poem is certainly serious about its subject matter. For example, these lines:

And the burning light it holds inside-
Is hellfire

...are not exactly, shall we say, what the reader is expecting. Very dark and dramatic. Also, I don't think I've ever seen a poem structured like this before. It's as if the poem follows a structure, but the structure *itself* is free-form. Does that make any sense? Anyway, great writing, very creative!

:-) Camilla 'Motone' Whitney replies: "Thanks... This is an older one, before I got interested in making poetry into forms... But I still like it, despite its horrid lack of punctuation 16"

Wooh... this is maybe the best Gothic poem I ever read. Okay, okay, I admit I haven't read all that many - but I've read enough to know how horrible they can be. This wasn't. This was... Gothic. It's so... so... ah, heck, I couldn't describe "Gothic" anyway and you've already done so, better than I could.

But, mmm, I think it was fourth part which didn't quite fit as well as it could have. The language was complex, and thus the ideas harder to grasp.

Other than that, I'm just gawking at you now.

:-) Camilla 'Motone' Whitney replies: "Gothic... yes...

*shambles off due to the unbearable ennui of existence*

*shambles back to finish the comment*

*decides that she really doesn't have anything to say besides "Thanks," so she shambles off again*"
