  | The party slipped carefully though the cave, remembering what the old woman had said... that there were dragons here. And where there were dragons, there must be treasure! Their leader stopped and held up a hand, “Listen, did you hear that?” The flame of the torch flickered wildly in a breeze that sounded like something breathing. But it was the loud crack that jerked their attention to a small alcove, where the glint of gold and the flash of gems reflected the light. And something more. An annoyed squawk announced the arrival of a new life into the world, as the tiny hatchling struggled to free itself from the shards of its eggshell. Greed flashed across the leader's face, for surely this dragon pup was worth even more than the hoard it rested on! He would never know for sure, for the roar of an enraged mother dragon blew out the torch, and screams followed him down into the darkness... |
