The rose petals drifted away on the wind and the sun set over the sea, she knew they were dead, of the many brave warriors who had set out on the fleet of elven ships only a few had come home. She had awaited eagerly for their return, only to have the elven prince (her brother, now the new king), walk slowly up to her and shake his head, they had won the war but paid a dear price

Time for mourning

Harsh reality comes and stikes at the face,
what to do when nothing can be done,
sorrow and anger strike at the heart,
feeling depresion despair.

The situation that has come right on at hand,
The truth is not always glad
let time heal the wounds that cut in to the soul,
the needed time for mourning is here.

by Eskil Ceder who was inspired by this picture (Thank you!)

*gasp* Oh, beautiful! I envy the way you can get the sky to fade down so smoothly like that... And the petals drifting away... so dramatic!

13 Rhiannon C. Piper 'Daggermaiden' replies: "thanks again for the great comment! the sky is just a faded flood fill, and the petals just turned out like that.. guess i am just lucky "

I was thinking, why I liked the birds there. Its like the birds are together but she's all alone. It makes the picture seem more sad.

22 Rhiannon C. Piper 'Daggermaiden' replies: "Oo i didnt think of that, maybe i subconsciously did it like that. thanks for pointing that out to me 1 "

Nice picture 1. I really like the oil paint like effect in the water and hair and the constrast with the smoothly faded sky. It seems to give it more texture. The birds up the top are a nice touch too 2.

13 Rhiannon C. Piper 'Daggermaiden' replies: "Thanks! 2 i like to try and add texture to my pictures!! i doesnt always work too well though "

Isn't it a great feeling when someone comes along and is suddenly so inspired by what you've drawn that they write a poem for it? I must say I've gone and gotten a bit jealous there *sniffs*. This is very lovely dear. I especially like the colouring in the water, which by the way, looks as though it is really moving.

13 Rhiannon C. Piper 'Daggermaiden' replies: "thank you! *bows* Ta Dar!! Cake???? *offers cake*well i was a bit surprised when i found the comment with the poem *grins* i was very wowed that i had inspired someone! though the pic means something very personal to me i was pleased that someone else found it poignant ^-^"

The sun's broken reflection on the water looks so neat. The only reason I stopped by was because you have the same first name as an old friend that I don't think I'll ever see again and I'm glad I did. So beautiful and so symbolic... You should stop by my gallery sometime.

13 Rhiannon C. Piper 'Daggermaiden' replies: "Well thank you for stopping by 2 and leaving this lovely comment! i will come and visit your gallery soon 2 "

I love the poem but why coundn’t the girl become Queen? I like the pic too the sun’s refletion on the water is neat.

:-) Rhiannon C. Piper 'Daggermaiden' replies: "not if her brother is the elder sibling, or if the title only passed down the male line (i’m not sure which i decided when i typed it)

1 thanks, the water took a while, though the grass took longer if i remember"
