You have a great gallery started here! You have a good knowledge of basic human proportions, and it will keep improving with practice. A great way to really understand th proportions in to have someone model for you. This way, you have some sort of reference in front of you in case you need it.
For names for your characters, you could try www.babynames.com, and enter what you want the name to mean. It will give you quite a list to choose from!

If you continue to nurse your art, in a few years you will be creating things you can't even imagine now. Good character names can come from Greek or any world mythology. You can also look at the species names of biological things.
