This is a nonesense-verse poem inspired by Tolkien's less well known 'Goblin Feet'. 'Flittermice' is actually an old English term for bats, but I pictured little mice with wings... that's about it :)

Flittermice

The flittermice are flying
(or so it is I'm told)
through the glens of yesteryear,
and over fields of gold.

Their tiny wings are humming
and chirping is their cry.
Their little feet tread scudding clouds
As they scurry through the sky.

I know not where they're going
(none but the fairies know).
Rumour has it that they fly
to a land of silver snow

to try and find a flower
Of a bright and golden sheen
With which to make a fairy-brew
To heal the Fairy Queen.

The flittermice are flying
(and one day, if I'm bold,
I'll join with them as they fly
Over fields of gold).

Wow. This poem was fantastic! I love the concept of the flittermice and the music of the piece. Great Work.
