I like the design of the armor in this drawing, especially the shoulder pads. The shading on the sword is well done as well. Overall a very nice piece. I wish I could draw half as good as this.

:-) David Mitchell replies: "As I've recently been told (in my fanart gallery) japanese weapons were custom made for balanced and held left hand over right, though I didn't know this at the time. The sword and hands were based loosely off the artwork on the cover of 'Ninja Scroll' (my all-time favorite anime film)."

Actually the hilt isn't too bad. The sword hilt of a katana was removeable quite easily. During war-times a longer hilt was used to get more force in each swing and for proper counter-balance. During peace-times the hilt was shortened so it could be worn comfortably on the waist.

umm ur shading is good ur armor could have been alittle bit more detailed the face is out of proportians and the hilt of that sword is crucked and way to long. no offense its fine but i could have done a much better job 10 10 10

:-) David Mitchell replies: "The sword is exaggerated, yes, but that was my intent. Now then, they say a picture is worth a thousand words. Why don't you show your work instead of telling me how much better it is?"

A few things don't make sense to me in this picture. Your skill is incredible, but read on if you want to get the little fiddly details right. 2

His hair is a wee bit weird, as a part of the point in the "highish ponytails/whatever you call them" hairstyles the samurai used was to keep your hair from getting on your eyes, short front hair wasn't generally considered stylish.

Secondly the katana hilt (in wartime and so) was typically 2-4 hands wide and was wielded so that the arms were on the err... edges? You'll have to excuse me, but english isn't quite perfect yet. 2 Katanas were rarely longer than 80cm or so btw.

As of today I have updated this pic. Enjoy!

Your skills have improved a bit on this one I think, nice work DM. Looks sort of like a katana thrusting stance. Rarely done, but messy.

Simple words: love the pose, love the armour but has his hair been cut off beause Samurais has a pionting hair thing.
