| 23 Sep 2002 | Lieuwe Boer | Loading...I was just browsing through your gallery again, and I noticed that you have got some really well-detailed costumes around here. The ones Ulrich and Izmobe are wearing look particularly good. Do you research that kind of stuff? If so, what kind of books have you been using? David Mitchell replies: "I'll try to answer as best I can, though truth be known I use a wide variety of sources for inspiration, ranging from D&D books, fantasy/sci-fi comics and art, historical costume books, and just about anything I can get my hands on which looks interesting. To name a few: Ulrich's attire as well as the two dresses Star and Gudeau are wearing in the "Gudeau 2" pic are based on specific outfits I found in a costume book about historical attire. The clothing of the Valer, the Mowhawk guy (as he's called in the thread), Elister, Bakshra, Themmatt, Gwyenth, and some people who appear in the background are based on various costumes I saw in one particular Museum Replicas limited catalogue. Clyte's look is inspired from a picture I saw in Spectrum 7. Jallarzi's armor is taken from the armor of a certain Dragonlance character. The outfits of Griffin, Zoard, and Star are based loosely on some of the Neverwinter Nights artwork. Similarly, Gudeau's attire is taken from that of a certain video game character I saw in one issue of Game Fan (though I can't recall which). The Bringer of Shadows, obviously, is taken from Planescape: Torment. The look of Benny was somewhat inspired by Pippin from the recent Fellowship of the Ring film, and Izmobe, obviously, was inspired from Rob Zombie. The look of Grock (and his picture) was inspired from a character in certain Azpiri story in the January 2000 issue of Heavy Metal. The Xaositects, the Harmonium guards, the khaasta and the Mercykillers look the way they are depicted in the various Planescape suppliments. The architecture seen in the Benny and Larson pic is inspired from both the PS setting and James Gurney's Dinotopia. The background of the Festhall in the Gudeau/Star pic is taken from the artwork of Blind Guardian's album "A Night at the Opera". That's at least what I can recall. Basically, historical and costume books and fantasy art (in books, games, or whatever) are what I recomend." | |
| 25 Nov 2002 | Lieuwe Boer | Loading...I have only just started playing Torment, I was more of a pure BG and IWD player, but now that I have I am beginning to understand a little more of Sigil. That Nameless One is kind of a goof though. But I guess that depends on how goofy you make him. I like the way you portrayed him here, and I'm glad Morte isn't floating next to him. Oh, and thanks for the explanation above! | |

| 6 Jan 2004 | Anonymous | Loading...I love Torment, although it would be really cool if you were to draw him as he was before he got his mortality back, with all of his scars. Also, when in the game does he have a sword? I'm not trying to offend you, I was just trying to remember. David Mitchell replies: "This is before he got his mortality back, and it takes place before "Torment" begins. Basically, I assumed "The Bringer of Shadows" was TNO's last incarnation. " | |
