A Dagger Wrought of Darkness

Darkness slips between

Waking reality

Like a dagger of indecision

Its icy blade honed by rigid thought

Its scabbard one of lonely haunting wishes

Tendrils of shadowed fear

Twist the blade

And hope is severed from all reason

While shedding waxen light

On the Key to inner strength

Face the pain

Though it bleeds away all peace

For the Key is what truly matters

Its simple form

Though wrought from despair and hope

Is tempered with God’s wisdom

Only he knows the door

To which it fits

So do not question

It is not for mortal mind

To comprehend Destiny

Only to follow the way set before them

Though often painful

There is always a Key to another

Door

To a new life.

Debbie

Loved it, Deb. As usual, your words are full of wisdom, an uplifting spirit, a balm to the soul. It's hard to face life sometimes, but we all must do it...Wonderful, *I* can't praise you enough! 12

Hello Deb! An excellent piece of work as per usual with you. Very moving and very true as far as my own life experiences bear out your words. The ideas and feelings here are further emblazoned with your writing's hallmark of brilliant imagery! Thank you for sharing this! Bonnie

Never say never, but always is OK. Like you said there's always another "door" and we are always curious enough to turn the "key".

Somehow, I felt as though there's always hope at the end of the line after reading this. I LOVED the last three lines...simple, yet impactful. You know something, Deb? This poem is very 'you'.

I love the way you string your words together...so true, so true, that one must face life. I wanted to escape reality, but I couldn't... Perhaps that's why so many characters in Gone with the Wind perished. They didn't want to face life. Okay, I know I sound strange. *smirks*

You have an amasingly strong and vibrant voice when you write, Deb. It's something that I cannot--should not, rather--comment on. I can hardly find the words to describe how this poem made me feel...! Something like this cannot ever be edited or critiqued... it's raw, pure, and perfect.

hmm, I feel young.

I did like the next 'door' thought...but I feel like its too drawn out. I found I was forgetting what was already spoken halfway through. The visual imagery is perfect, and I like the descriptions, I just feel its a little long.
