                         BATTLE OF THE ANGELS

Suffocating despair,
    Ominous foreboding,
        Black leathery wings
            Blot out the sun.

Pain descends,
    Depression’s cloak
        Smothers human hope
            With a stench of despair.

Evil laughter,
    Faith dies,
        Soul’s enemy smells
            The sweaty odor of victory.

Swords flash,
    Thunder roars,
        Lightning splits the sky
            As weapons clash.

Soft sobs
    Underscored with inhuman screams,
        Soul weeps,
            As powers collide.

Silver swords
    Rip through black wings,
        And demons shriek
            In angry frustration.

Snowy white feathers
    Comfort the sobbing soul,
        Renewing faith,
            Imparting new hope.

Angels’ wings ---
    In black and white ---
        Battling for one soul’s hope…
            Comfort found in God’s presence.
