An experiment in lighting and shading...geh, the scanner hates it when I do art. The shading is so much nicer on the origional! Stevan uth Martigan, my Paladin...in work clothes! He looks rather grim...

Inspired by a picture of a young Marlon Brando. Stevan is now affectionately known as Stevan Brando. :D

I'm not sure what she means by round..I've been staring at this for awhile trying to figure it out myself..Unless the arms are somehow cylindrical? I dont know? Anyway, this is a very pensive-looking fellow. I like the mood you've captured here - mood is hard to capture. He also seems wise to me..Maybe a little secretive/aloof by the way he's holding that stick(?) not that I'm an expert on body language tho.. One thing: What sorts of pencils do you use? I personally find that 2B-4B have a really nice softness for shading in pictures like this. You can really get that graduation from light to dark without it being too abrupt. Nice composition here - did you draw it from a pic of a younger marlon brando, or just concoct this broody creature from your mind?

:-) Joan Desiree Johnson replies: "I found out that by "round" she meant "3D" so that's all good. ^_^ I always use a 2B pencil. I have nothing else in the way of pencils to use. As for the expression...Stevan's the nice guy with a dark past that he's less than proud of. I used a picture of Marlon Brando from A Streetcar Named Desire as reference for this picture. "

Somehow he reminds me of the guy from that old odd movie 'LadyHawke.' Don't know why. Anyway, it's done very well! Looks very deep in thought... excellent hands!

:-) Joan Desiree Johnson replies: "Yay! I got the hands right (for once)! YAY! *dances* You've made me a happy 'lil scribbler!"

Nah. Wanting to lick your own character isn't bad. Hell, all my characters are women and i wouldn't mind licking some of them so..*shrugs* yeah...anyway..heh

Well ya know what!! Stevan's all mine!!! *laughs evilly* This paladin is betrothed to my Morgan...anyway that's not the point. Joansies, as I told you before when ya first showed me it, it's great! and he is handsome. I know ya didn't want or mean for him to be but...TOO BAD!!! *evil laugh again* Anywho, wonderful and lovely Joan.

:-) Joan Desiree Johnson replies: "  Yes, that's true. Stevan is officially Morgan's thus making him Ashbear's man. Hey, is it weird to want to lick one of your own characters? The more I look at this picture, the more I want to lick Stevan."

Great job joans, only thing i see that really, truly stands out is the fingers, you didn't crease them, look down at your hand, and where you bend your fingers it looks like an almond, try adding those into his hand and add bits of shading in the deeper creases and it'd look GREAT!

LAdyhawke. Good comparison. He does have the Rutger Hauer influence, neh? Very nicely done Joan. I love the detail that went into this one.

Wow. The guy's ripped. And he hasn't killed Tybalt, yet?! Anyhoo...good portrait of Stevan here.

:-) Joan Desiree Johnson replies: "It's Eve's fault. She made Tybalt a higher level than Stevan. 1 He gets his arse handed to him whenever they duke it out. But Tybalt will get his comuppance! hehe."

This seems to be the best of all your human sketches, in my opinion at least. Anatomically it's the most accurate, though you could refine it a bit more in that area. Good attempt at the shadings, but I still feel it's a bit incomplete. I think you have the potential to give it a much richer shading with far more contrast. Hope I'm making sense. Hahahaha!

:-) Joan Desiree Johnson replies: "I'm definitely going to re-shade this one. I got some lovely 6b, 8h and ebony pencils that should be a BIG improvement over a simple 2b clay based pencil."

The shading is amazing!
