| 3 Mar 2006 | Auntie Kristi | Mike Wow great job! I'm going to mark this page as one of my favourites! You are so talented!! I'm so proud that you are my nephew! I think I recognize a couple of pieces Mike J. Desrochers replies: "I'm glad you like it!I'll try to update a little more often, just because I'll probably have to start practicing a lot more if I'm going to get into an art school. Thanks a bunch!" | |
| 12 Aug 2006 | C. R. 'Doc' Carter | You have a very colorful gallery! I particularly like 'The Rainbow Guardian' - something about the calmness in the picture and the wonderful colors used is just beautiful (but I also happen to love how you drew the tree). ;] Mike J. Desrochers replies: "Thanks! It's so good to hear you talking that way about my work, as it really helps build my confidence to keep working and creating. Unfortuneately, I'm going to be extremely busy (more than I imagined) until the end of September... so I'm sorry if there aren't many updates. But I will try, for sure harder now that I have your approval. Thanks for commenting, and please check back after August, which is when I'll be back from Ontario and have access to my coloring utensils again. Thanks a whole bunch!" | |
| 17 Oct 2006 | Becky C. Russell | Hey Mike, its Becky from school. I was looking through Haley Oatway's artwork and saw that you had commented on some of her stuff. I didn't know you had an elfwood account. Alot of your art is really great. I thought I would comment, since I know you from school, and it turns out we both have elfwood accounts. Cool stuff. -Becky Mike J. Desrochers replies: "Hey Becky, Thanks for commenting! I remember we made small talk in art class every now and then, but I guess we both turned out to be a little unaware on the subject of elfwood accounts... Anyway, thanks for taking the time to browse my gallery, and I'm gonna go and leave some comments in yours now ^^. Thanks again!" | |
| 19 Jan 2007 | Tracy Squires | Hiya, I noticed you want to get into animation and figured I'd give you some general advice. I'm in my 2nd year of animation school so I'm certainly no expert but I can give you some insight into the kind of things you need to be profficient in. Perspective and life drawing are key. Even in 3D animation if you don't know how the body works your stuff wont look life like. If you can find a life drawing class near you take it!! taking life drawing has completely changed the way I look at character design and drawing in general. If you are great and drawing 3D companies will take you and train you on the 3D softwear (I know a girl who was hired based on her lifedrawing and trained in 3D max to work for a studio over people who knew the program) Besides life drawing perspective is LAW get fermiliar with 1,2,3 and curvalinear perspective. you'll never survive with out them- I don't know how I ever did. One of my teachers said a quoat I quite enjoy "Drawing is 10% tallent and 90% hard work." And it's true. Anyways I tend to go on rants so I'm going to stop myself. I'm going to wander through your gallery some more and leave more image-specific comments. Mike J. Desrochers replies: "I do plan to get into it sometime, maybe not right away, but eventually I'd like to transfer art to 3D. Since that's the case, I'll be sure to take more than a passing interest if I notice any of those drawing courses you mentioned. I've heard quite a bit about life drawing being quite helpful as well, but I just haven't tried much of it yet... possibly because I may be underestimating it. If that's so, then I probably should try to draw even one or two and see how much it improves my work. I've also been noticing how much more appealing perspective makes drawings too, but I just can't apply that to people yet. Oh well, at least it's something for me to be working for from now on! I'll be sure to try some of those things out, and thanks so much for the comment! It's better to reply to these long ones rather than the single-lined "It's cool, I like it!" ones (no offense to anyone reading). Thanks again for offering so much knowledge!" | |
| 14 Feb 2007 | Haley Oatway | Hey, just commenting to say Happy Singles Awareness Day! Or "Valentines Day" as some like to say... whichever... Mike J. Desrochers replies: "Thanks! Happy Singles Awareness Day to you too! Thanks for keeping in touch, and I'll talk to you later ." | |
| 15 Feb 2007 | Haley Oatway | Keeping in touch is never too big of an issue. ^_^ E-mail me sometime when you have a chance, or even call if you'd like. Catching up and visiting is always nice. Mike J. Desrochers replies: "Actually, I beleive I'll e-mail you tonight and catch up on some things... I seem to have some time between my Physics write-up, social questions and designs for stained glass and a huge painting on one of the school walls, but that'll be in detail in a few minutes! Man, the stretch before college sure is busy, and I'm sure the real thing will be even more so. Anyway, talk to you soon!" | |
| 20 Aug 2008 | Grayson Haak Audette | youve got some nice work here, hope you have time to visit my page! Mike J. Desrochers replies: "Thank you! Indeed I did visit your page, you’ve got some very neat ideas and drawings. I’ll go leave some comments there soon. =)" | |
