The title couldn't say what this piece is about any better. The Old Dragon Slayer. Yep, old he sure looks, but I bet he could still bring it to any dragons that he had to face!
I really love his armament and multitude of weaponry. A long sword, a short sword, a dagger, a spear, satchel of healing potions, and armor. Just enough stuff to make him seem laden down for a hell of a fight without cluttering the picture too much. Bravo on that! The only thing missing I think would be the horse half of him to bear simular armors of some kind but then again that would be a bit excessive.
I really, really dig those horns he's got! Sort of makes it seem like he's gotten injured in battle a few times and enough dragons blood has been leached into his body to make him grow horns after years of battle after battle on dragons.
Its a cool piece to be sure! Keep drawing 'taurs!

His swords positioned to be easily drawn, the fact that he's using a long spear for dragon slaying, the pouch (I guess you could call it a saddlebag, lol) sitting out of the way, but within reach. There's just a functionality to him that usually isn't given to a character like this, even though Centaurs have to operate entirely different than normal creatures.
As I write that all I feel incredibly dorky, but I've never really come across a fantasy character drawing that's taken into consideration the things you seem to have considered. In short, it's great. Love it. | |
