This is Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and warfare.  Her shield bears the picture of an owl, which she is associated with. The owl design is from an actual Greek coin. She also has an owl feather in her hair. In her other hand she is holding a spear, though you can't see the top. Athena is usually noted for being 'bright-eyed', so I hope I got that across in my picture. I like how she stands there so regally and .... 'unruffled' even though the wind is wildly whipping her hair.

Done with a single HB pencil on normal printer paper. (Sept 2004)

This picture is really quite amazing, it doesnt exactly look realistic, but it betrays a very strong and unique personal style that i honestly like. I suppose you could always keep moving to make things more realistic. But theres something about your figures that i like at this stage in your artistic development...Lol

18 Diana N Carter replies: "You're so kind, thanks! I'm always working to make things more realistic. I sometimes study people's faces when I get bored on the bus ride home. Hopefully I'll do another portrait soon."

I like this one. It is good to see armor on a fantasy drawing that would work as armor. This is very nice though I'm not sure why. I am a sucker for greyscale but I don't think that's it.
Skip

umm i think the face may look weird because its not proportionally right. every thing should be shifted down a bitt... 1 but outher than that it's pretty briliant i love your shading

:-) Diana N Carter replies: "Thanks, I'm going to keep working on my portraits. I know they need improving, but hopefully they are getting better"
