"Perverse Obsession (My precious)" by Donovan M Colbert

Nope. I very rarely use a model. Sometimes when my muse is really speaking to me, it isn't even like I am drawing the picture, it is more like I am channeling it. It is like the lines are already there on the paper, and I just have to trace them with the pencil. Hard to explain, I guess. But this was one of THOSE kind of drawings.

You know, I could tell it was gollum from the thumbnail? Very expressive and i love the anatomy. i wish I could draw legs like that. Did you use a model?

I know what you mean about that channeling thing.... just follow those lines and end up with a great pic like this. Congrats

I wanted to do MUCH more with the water and his reflection in it, but I just don't have the talent that would be required, and I didn't want a lame attempt at realistic water ruining what was otherwise a pretty good drawing. My muse ran out of steam at the lake, at any rate. Oh, about the Yoga comment. My understanding was always that Gollum was a bent and misshappen hobbit that would have been very tall by hobbit standards if he stood upright. Presumably his hunched manner was from crawling through natual caves and other tight spaces staying out of the way of Orcs and other baddies who lived Under the Mountain. Around Bilbo and then Frodo, he also had a submissively hunched demeanor, as I read his character. I was trying to catch those things here. His intense longing, his warped body and soul, the tragic quality of his character. Gollum may be the most human character in the entire Lord of the Rings/Hobbit series.

Donovan you see deeper into gollum than most, and this is truly one of your greatest works. I only have two things. One, in Tolkein's books e wrote that Gollum had hair and what is up with the ear? My preciousssss!

fantastic shading on leg showing up muscle tone & bone perfectly. By rights, far side leg should be darker, but maybe not quite so much? Looks slightly detatched from the body. Please tell me you used some sort of model for his left leg. Or should I go and shoot myself now.

ai! how very very cool! no toenail clippers under the Mountain, eh? ^_^ first thing i noticed, detail-wise, aside from the big eye. i likes it...well, i like Gollum, so naturally i like this...but! it's cool. did i say that? i'm gonna shut up now...

i like gollum, hes cool, not that ugly. But this is a very nice pic, even thought it picks on gollum.
