This was a dragon I drew on May 14th, 2002. My BF's father had just died in a car crash the day before, and I was just... well, upset. I named it after his dad; his day was a strong man.I don't usually draw dragons, so don't expect another one.
Also. Don't get on my case about the wings. There is a book called The Flight of Dragons that explains that dragons didn't NEED big wings becuase their highly acidic blood created HYDROGEN in their lungs. Wings were for direction, fire-breathing for venting (much like an air balloon.) Click on the title and it'll give a review. goauche on black mounting board.

i think that the dragon is ...... wonderful! my deep condolences to ure bf and ureself. I think that this is a fine way to remember his father2

:-) Kelli doyle replies: "Thanks. I certaily hope it is; and by each of you visiting here, it reminds me of what a fine man he was and the people who still love him."

I am soooo sorry to hear about your boyfriend's father. My father-in-law almost died last month. I wish I could have empathy, but I've never gone thru a parent's death. This dragon is a wonderful way to preserve his memory. Good job! It is beautiful!

Sorry about your BF's dad. By the way, I think that Peter Dickinson (author of Flight of Dragons) said that the dragons ingest a lot of calcium, and calcium mixed with stomach acid forms HYDROGEN, instead of helium. Hydrogen is highly flammable, and is ignited with electricity in the mouth. When the dragon wants to fly, he simply expands the hydrogen chambers in his torso and goes up, directing the flight with the wings. When he desires to go down, he belches, releasing the hydrogen and igniting it as it comes out, rather like a blow torch.

This is a really nice pic, but I would suggest that you make a distinction between the snout and the teeth, unless, of course, you were going for that heraldry look. Luv the wings! I'll shut up now.....

:-) Kelli doyle replies: "Sorry for the incorrect quoting on the ehading for this. I last read the Flight of Dragons about 6 years ago and have been hunting for it ever since. As for the mouth, I was going for a *breaky-beaky-rigid thing*. And as everyone says Heraldry, I guess, whatever."

Wow- my condolences, but what a lovely tribute! A shame you don't draw dragons more often though, you certainly have a talent for it-- beautiful work--Laura

I'm very sorry to hear about your boyfriends father. This is a beautiful tribute to his memory. Wonderful detail, I like the magestic gold tone you've used.

:-) Kelli doyle replies: "The golden color was a total reference to the Leo idea; it's a mix of golden yellow and yellow ochre gouache."

I really like this style, and the detail and color of the scales is wonderful.

:-) Kelli doyle replies: "thank you. I worked hard on this piece, and all the commets show me that it was not in vain."

awww, i am sorry about your boyfriends father, thats sad indeedums, and your dragon does look a bit sad, and i can see why, very good style and technique, i like it very much! 1 although..its a shame you dont draw dragons often, theyre beautiful creatures ^^

:-) Kelli doyle replies: "I don't draw dragons much becuase I think they take a certain kind of talent; a grasp of anatomy and a creativity in both color and design. Otherwise the dragon looks flat; like this. I like dragons, I just can't do them the way I'd like to."

The position is really interesting. He looks chinese--like a chinese dragon, that is--a little bit, you know how they're more stylized and curl around, sort of. In any case, it's really pretty, and i bet your boyfriend's dad appreciates it, in spirit.

:-) Kelli doyle replies: "Yeh, I get you. I like both kinds, and always thought it weird that there were two kinds. But now, since seeing them Tehoetsey Drags, I think I MAY just do another one."
