Yay! I finally got to upload this!

This was my entry to VASE! VASE is a Texas art competition for high schoolers, and I made it to state! Big deal for me, since I've never done much with my pictures, before.

The picture itself is called Beyond, and this is why: We all have our own little bubble, right? Our comfort zone, where things are good enough for us to be happy and content. The difference between dreamers/artists, and the rest of the humdrum world, though, is that we look beyond that little comfort zone, to see what else we can reach. The girl is in her own bubble, filled with beauty and tranquility. But past her tropical paradise are the wonders of the ocean. While dangerous, there are few greater freedoms or mysteries than the open sea.

This was HUGE, so I had to scan it in three pieces (pain to stick together, I'll tell ya!) Hope it don't show up none! Done in Crayolas (plus a white prismacolor for fine details). I'd have posted it sooner, but I wasn't so sure about having my entry being on the internet. By the way? That kind of perspective is H-A-R-D!!!! And never do domes. Or water surfaces. Or tropical plants... *shudders*

That's crazy awesome. Crazy awesome. Which is my own special way of saying it fing rocks. WOOT Oh yeah I get the first comment dance again. *FIRST COMMENT DANCE WOOOT!!!!* YAYY!! I love the birdies! That perspective would be hard, I suck at shading and perspective and all that crap, That's why I mostly do sculptures that I'm too lazy to upload.

:-) Cynthia Conner replies: "*grin* Thank you! I've learned my lesson with this perspective... I only did it to impress the judges. ^^"

Oh, very cool! ^^ I love that idea, I used to play with the idea of personalized bubbles on a spaceship or in a futuristic city for a story a while back. But yours is insanely cooler. And bigger. Which is always good. 10

I love the detail in the plants and the sea animals, and the color *drools all over screen* Mmmm, color... the perspective is spot on! The color is striking as well. Wait, I've mentioned that already....

Yup, it rocks. It rocks my socks of! Three hairy thumbs way way up!

:-) Cynthia Conner replies: "Bigger's better! At least, that's what I'd like to think. And as for the thumbs? Ummmm.... thanks? I think. "

Very nice work, indeed-- the perspective and detail work is very well done, in spite of your trepidation. 1 Kudos on a fine job!!

16 Cynthia Conner replies: "Oh, grrr... trepidation... don't know that one. brb! *grabs a dictionary* ah... ok. "apprenhension" Thank you!"

Terrific. I loove the ocean overhead. Mermaids!! Wheeee!!!
Sorry, still 12180 am.
Anywho, Nice job. Who'da thunk that Crayolas could give birth to such a masterpiece? I mean. I drew a house once with crayons for my little cousins. It was 2-d. Whoo. ^_^ And I drew lines on the roof for the shingles. But that's as masterpiece-ish as I can ever get.

28 Cynthia Conner replies: "^___^ Yay for Crayolas! I still think the miss me, though..."

Good for you, Cynthia, for taking on the challenge of a difficult angle and new textures and effects. Technical issues aside, this is an excellent concept and it is nicely done. I especially like the indications of the mer-folk ;-) I would say that this was a worthwhile study and I hope you continue to challenge yourself in future pieces. 1

I cant imagine doing that kind of view. I tried drawing one of my characters from the top of her head, trust me the results weren’t pretty. Great picture!
