Nicoline Hello again to my fellow fantasy lovers! Back and ready for action? Ok, nevermind, I'm not either ;-) Uh, by the way, kick the comment monster (and do it hard) for me if you happen to see it- it's been eating away at my replies. Apologies to everyone affected by this.

Well I’m glad I could make someone laugh today... er.. yesterday. I had a terrible headache all day yesterday so I’ve been hiding in a dark room for as long as possible. My friend dragged me on a walk with her and the kid we’re currently taking care of. Somehow ended up wading through almost knee deep mud and ice cold water to retrieve the kid’s shoe because she threw it into the creek. Needless to say that didn’t make my headache, nor my mood, any better but whatever.
Currently visiting the new family I’ll be staying with starting in June. They seem great and the highlight of my day was going past Stonehenge and finding a really old church/cemetery just down the street from the house. Ok so that was two highlights but who’s counting? Anyways, they church is really awesome, old, has super old graves and stuff around it. Absolutely creepy with giant old trees that make canopies of green. -childish grin of glee- perfect, absolutely perfect. for what? who knows but I love it!
I will have to reply to the message you left on my page whenever this computer decides to let me reply. for some reason I can post comments but I can’t reply to them.
I understand your need for elfwood, it is a lovely escape! Hope you get your regular internet back soon!

:-) Nicoline Badenhorst replies: "What? That is so random, all across the world, everyone I know has had a headache that day- I almost couldn’t see on my way back home that day and was highly irrate when my friend smsed me to ask for a favour- until she said that she had a headache and couldn’t do it herself. When I talked to my mom and my friend the evening, they complained about it as well. There’s me wondering if it might be a global alien attack... lol
My goodness, what a brat! Too bad you can’t make her retrieve it herself.
You sure meet a lot of people on your travels. Really? I love creepy churchyards and old churches. I find them inspiring. That and the botanical garden. Maybe it’s the quiet and the vibe that you get there... in any case, it works for me.
I’ve got a nice piece of titbit for you: the closest genetical structure to that of humans is that of rats- they are the ones being used as model organism. Kinda figures. I hate rats. Mice are fine, spiders are fine, snakes and crickets are fine, but rats... eurgh.
Yes, I sometimes have the same problem, which is why I usually copy my reply and try and try until it works. *kicks comment monster* *feels sorry for comment monster* Maybe someone should adopt it and give it love. *entourage of puppy, tylacine and muse become very excited* Nooo, I didn’t mean me!
I’ve got my internet back and have put it to good use reading half the night yesterday- the other half I spent chatting to my crush."

Huh, weird! Maybe it was international headache day or something. I agree, the aliens are attacking -runs in circles then into a wall-
Oh, I threatened to throw her in after it if she ever did it again. I also made her wear the shoe all the way back to the car because I certainly wasn’t going to carry her back.
I know, meeting so many people is overwhelming! I am having a great time and everything, I do however wish I could be back home where I already know people, at least for a little while. I’m bad at making friends xD
Yeah, I’ll take some pictures to show you. We walked through the gate and I probably had a huge smile plastered to my face cuz in my mind I was thinking ’this is just way too damn cool. Creepy and super quiet... perfect writing spot!’

:-) Nicoline Badenhorst replies: "*rubs hands together gleefully* Alien experiments!
Good for you, these kids always try to be the boss.
Yes, I know that feeling- it’s so nice and comfortable at home- the friends you have take you for who you are and you don’t have to worry endlessly about not making strangers feel uncomfortable for who you are. Me too- I won’t not talk to someone and I sometimes even go talk to someone first, but usually people think me too different and quirky for comfort.
Please do. I’ve gotta see that you’re going to be the best photographer the world has seen after all. lol
Yes, I know that smile. People get it when they fall in love with something or someone. lol I need to pay attention to my smiles in the moment- they have the tendency to pop up at inconvenient times when having a dumbstruck smile plastered to your face can get you into some seriously embarassing situations.
"
16 May 2009:-) Kelsey Lynn Reed
Agh, rats? seriously? I dislike rats very very much... I agree with you there, anything but rats!
Have you ever heard of Degus? They’re these cute little creatures that look like a cross between a mouse and a chinchilla. This new family has 3 and I love them already.
lol I think your entourage wants to tame the comment monster. That could be exciting...
Yay! Now I just need to get my lazy bum online every night so I can reply to comments better xD Oooh, chatting with the crush is always fun! I did that with my boyfriend, only over the phone, for about 6 months before my dad yelled at me for a HUGE phone bill -sheepish grin-
-throws book at stupid character limit- wait! ah! not my book!

:-) Nicoline Badenhorst replies: "No, but they sound adorable! I love small furry animals with a propensity or at least a potential for cuddling. That small warm body in your hands is just the most rewarding thing I can think of. You know what random thing happened to me? I was visiting at my friends place and wnet to the bathroom to wash my hands after the dogs had had their say with me and came across a small lizard that just sat there. Normally these things are too quick to catch, but that one just waited for me to pick it up and take it outside, as though it wasn’t afraid of me at all. And it wasn’t that cold that it couldn’t have moved in the first place, because it was gone immediately when I put it down. It was as if it was waiting for me to pick it up and take it to where it belonged.
I bet they’d team up and wreck havoc in my room. The comment monster already tried to eat my smses to my crush yesterday evening. It didn’t quite suceed, but it was a close enough call. lol
It’s far more fun when he’s visiting at your place- no phonebill (which I have to pay myself) to worry about. lol We talked such amount of nonsense that I feel really blonde thinking of it.
*catches book before it is devoured by the comment character limit threat monster* here you go, all saved."
16 May 2009:-) Kelsey Lynn Reed
Oho! If I had your email address I would invite you to look at all my pictures on flickr! As to the best photographer the world has ever seen... I highly doubt it but hey, it would be cool. i’d need a better camera though xD
lol, don’t you hate the smiles that appear at the worst times? like when someone is talking about something really serious but really boring and you start spacing off and thinking about something completely different and you just start to smile... not that I’ve ever done that before -shifty eyes-
aw sweet, lizards are awesome! maybe it knew you’d rescue it.
heh, nonsense as in some of the random nonsense that makes you go ’huh, well that is just nonsnese now that i think about it’ or more like ’oh my god what was i thinking when i said that O_O ???’ nonsense? xD i find i have those two types and not much in between lol
have you ever watched the movie LoveActually ? it’s very british and kind of a romantic comedy (something I’d NEVER watch) but i ended up watching it the other day because i didn’t know what it was at the time. If you get lonely easily don’t watch it lol

:-) Nicoline Badenhorst replies: "Hehehe, exactly that kind. I’ve had to kick myself mentally the whole day long today so my thoughts wouldn’t constantly drift into idiot-smile-topics. --gotta-keep-doing-management accounting--- no- time--for memory lane. OMW, can you believe me, the cynic, acting like a lovelorn teen!! Embarassing!
No, more in the sense of we started off on one topic and halfway through a story, we just got sidetracked so badly. Genetics, ethics and legislation seem to be recurring topics though. lol The other types of nonsense don’t seem to be so prevalent in me when I’m with him, which is a very good thing, coz I’ve said some really blonde things to some of my former crushes.
No, anything that has the word "love" in it usually makes me back up really fast. Then I have to figure out if the evil commitment is aimed at me- if it is, I run, if it isn’t, it probably means its a chickflick, so I run. lol
Hey, I’ve got a good joke for you- this one guy who I chatted to a while ago and who’s in love with my best friend here, wanna guess what his favourite movie is? This is scary: Titanic! Really, how can a guy like such a soppy movie, never mind it being his favourite?"
17 May 2009:-) Kelsey Lynn Reed
seriously laughing out loud right now xD Well at least you have something happy to think about 12
I think if I tried to talk about any of that with my boyfriend we’d both lose interest really fast... he’s the only one who can actually get me to sit back and relax and NOT think about serious stuff for awhile so it works out somehow lol
heh, just watch out. those "other" nonsenses will just build up until BOOM! just kidding of course =P
yes yes yes! I usually run for my life when it comes to such movies. I’m recognizing the problem though. This new family has 2 girls to take care of and they both, plus their mum, like chick flicks. save meeeeeeee
Titanic? seriously? oh how weird! I can’t stand it personally but... seriously? lol
you know, they say they’ll never understand women but then guys just suddenly do stuff like that and i wonder why we never make a big deal about not understanding them xD

:-) Nicoline Badenhorst replies: "*shifty eyes* Yes, now just to get over the urge of running away every now and then. But yeah, I guess it’s time that things work out for me. ;-)
Well, I guess I’m a sucker for heated discussions and random pieces of information, so it’s pretty entertaining for me. Plus, I’ve got to keep up the image of being a crazy mastermind. lol
*shifty eyes to other side* So that’s why I get nervous around my class mate and start talking the greatest nonsese until he tells me that he doesn’t get a word of what I’m saying. And now here I was worried needlesly. 10
I suspect a soon-to-come brainwashing attempt- you know that the mind has a safety latch that makes you think you --like-- to be tortured by Pride and Predjudice, Wuthering Heights or Jane Eyre? After a prolonged exposure to my friend’s "soft music", I tend to be much more girly- it’s scary. Beware the subversion of chick flicks. What’s the worst for me is that there is absolutely no variation- you know almost always who’s getting who. How exciting.
Yes, seriously. First I thought he’d just said that to impress my friend, but it seems he’s really into chick flicks. Crazy. I think it’s the greatest piece of illogicality the world has ever seen. Duh, there’s no other piece of driftwood anywhere (ok, I know, the pool is small), so the guy just herocally dies? Maybe the tragedy would’ve been better without that sickening love story in between. If they’d just stick to history.
Hm, maybe we just realise that we won’t ever understand certain things about guys and so just let it pass? Along the lines of "Why can’t you admit that you’re lost?" "I’m not lost. I’m just taking a detour for the scenery, so enjoy it, d... it!" "Ok, ok, I realise this is another of those things that are not meant to be understood, so just cool down." It’s the safest way out of trouble, I think. lol"
19 May 2009:-) Kelsey Lynn Reed
Wait... who is running away from what? you lost me there for a sec xD
Yes! Things should work out for you, don’t ask why, they just should =P
I have a friend who will carry on such conversations with me all the time so i think one person in real life and one person via internet works out for me lol
the image of a crazy mastermind? Frighteningly enough I think you could actually be one if you tried hard enough 22 actually I’m sure quite a few people who dwell in the shadows of Elfwood could pull it off...
aagghh, not the brainwashing! But I know what you mean. I think the same is true when you’re around those who are much more girly than you because my step-sister is a lot more girly than I am and when I’m around her I am not my normal self and it scares me xD
what sort of music do you listen to?
Ha, my guy friends always do that. Then my boyfriend and I were out driving somewhere that I hadn’t been in a long time (in the woods in the middle of nowhere) and I got myself semi-lost and he’s like ’are you lost yet?’ then I’d glare at him and tell him I’m just trying to copy what all guys do, just to see what it’s like. Somehow the point is always lost though and they just say I’m lost anyways xD
oh hey, I am going to invite you to Flickr so you can see pictures from this strange place they call Europe =P

29 May 2009:-) Kelsey Lynn Reed
edit: so i’m back on the computer that doesn’t let me reply to comments for awhile -hiss- hopefully we can carry on our convo on your page lol
yep, serously haven’t heard of it lol I’m going to have to find a little notebook to write everything down in that is specifically dedicated to our world... wow, did you notice we just made a huge leap from country to world? lol
oh my goodness. Reading over this philosophical stuff with your head hurting as well as back, neck, and shoulder is very very hard to compute (for lack of another word). I’m going to have to put off arguing when I can think straighter. I had to read over all of that twice to get it to sink into my brain xD I think you’ll have to put up with my answer to all of this for now and I’ll try to make a better argument when I get back on tomorrow... the chair’s comfort can only be calculated by the one who sits in it and even that could vary from person to person because, like beauty, comfort is in the eye of the beholder... or maybe but in this case... anyways, I’m going to go lay down and try to pretend I feel better than I do xD

:-) Nicoline Badenhorst replies: "Hm, join the club. Lol, seems as though there is some kind of intercontinental bond going on here- headaches work across the world, when I don’t have internet access, you have problems with the computer that doesn’t like posting replies... strange, isn’t it?
Wow, indeed. So random. I’ve got a good idea- it’s just going to involve a lot of work. How about we write each other chapters on the world- like in one of us starts off with general physical attributes, then sends it via mail and the other replies and adds on that. At the end, we could probably publish it on one of our shelves and work from there... Like I said, the snag is that it’s a hell of a lot of work. Though I think it could be fun.
Yes, I know exactly what you mean- I’ve been trying to get law into my head with that kind of setting and the worst was that my thoughts kept drifting off to things (most importantly, people) that had absolutely nothing to do with tests and company law. Lol
Lol, I liked that idea. However, we may not be able to calculate the exact comfort of the chair, but we can estimate the range of comfort it offers. (And I just got myself completely lost somewhere; today’s not a good day for philosophy, it seems)"
31 May 2009:-) Kelsey Lynn Reed
That is so weird lol. Maybe we should stop talking so much, what if something really bad happens to one of us? I don’t really want to find that out xD
That would be awesome, we should totally do that. but where to start lol. first off, is this world going to be in the actual world or is it going to be a fantasy world like most stories we’ve written? i think it would be easier to just create a world outside of this one.
lol nice, I’m terrible at studying for that exact reason.
You know what I think? I think I’ve given up on the chair for now lol My brain seems to be philosophicalized-out right now xD
sux that your internet is down once again. If it makes you feel any better I still don’t have my computer charger so haven’t been able to work on anything for waaay too long. Home, as in Namibia right?

:-) Nicoline Badenhorst replies: "I’m sure that nothing bad will happen, seeing as we’re the main characters of our story, and nothing seriously bad ever happens to main characters (refer: Piers Anthony). And I doubt that a weird intercontinental bond like that just gets severed by stopping to talk to each other. Lol Now we’re going into the metaphysical instead of the philosophical, huh?
I think I speak for the both of us if I say that fantasy based in the real world normally sucks- it’s too much of a Harry Potter situation for me. So yeah, I prefer high fantasy most of the time. I’ve got a few awesome ideas for societies in that world, but I’ve always been useless at the whole geographical/map thing- I can’t estimate distances in how long it would take for trasport other than cars to get somewhere and I can’t really do the natural geographical evolution thing. I suggest we start with that, though, since it’s easier to populate a world if you have an idea of how it looks and where people would settle. If we use the guidelines in the FARP section, the next thing would be to define the rules of the world- gravity, how strong it is, where the magic comes from, that kind of stuff. Afterwards we can define the creatures- animals, plants and sentient beings- that inhabit the world and their alliances, which will probably fill roundabout twenty pages just with descriptions, politcal alliances, wars, history, maybe even one or two key political figures, not to forget political structures, sociology, ecconomics- all the little detail that makes a world a world. Sicknesses and so on is an important factor to remember as well./rant
Look who’s gotten her internet back again! Hope you get your mac fixed soon.
Yes, home is Namibia.

very true. You can’t well throw the main characters into a coma and expect the story to continue. unless, of course, you turn the minor characters into the main characters but that would just get confusing...
You’re right, it does usually suck. Then you have to deal with real life in your stories as well and that’s just no fun at all.
Don’t worry, I’ve got the geographic part covered. It’s coming along quite nicely too... Ah yes, it will be interesting to see how our ideas clash/work together when it comes to how the subject of magic should be handled. As to the rest, I think the whole ’eight and a half hours of discussion in the last two days’ thing has helped out quite nicely. Finally getting down to one country and society! So excited!!!! I have a feeling the little book i’m keeping notes in just wont just it eventually but we’ll see.
Yay for internet!
I just had the best pasta for lunch in the world lol I’m proud of it because I somehow managed to make it taste good by just pulling random stuff and spices out of the refrigerator and garden and threw them all together in hopes of making it taste good xD
