'And so she swam, the water caressing her as though it were the touch of a lover, as the sea opened up and gave unto her its bounty. The tooth of some long dead beast she took as her blade, in its shell-forged hilt a pearl that she used to see the future. But that, still, was not enough, and so, the sea brought her more, ever more, for the love of its queen.'

Done for the lovely and talented Natalie Paquette as a gift. This is the grossly scaled down version of the original (which clocks in at a hefty 34.5mb worth of .psd file) - I am sad to say it is not where I want it to be, but if I go much further, I'll start overworking it, and it will either lose quality or I'll spend so long working on it that it will never get done. I'm sad to say that I had to resort to the 'knee bend' to get the curves on her body right. Ah, well. Pencil base, inked, then copious amounts of photoshop airbrush, paintbrush, some sponge, a good amount of smudge, and absolutely NO dodge or burn. This is for you, sweetie! I hope you like it!

Hey! You didn't tell me you COLOURED this! Even if it isn't where you would have liked it to be, it turned out really nicely. I really enjoy the colour choices, and the colour work itself is just excellent.

This is one of the best drawings I've seen from you, IMO.

:-) James Milligan replies: "Thank you! I really thought I'd told you that I'd colored it, but I guess I didn't! I'm sorry. 8 Thank you, though! I'm really rather fond of it, too!"

Wow. She's stunning! Her tail is so majestically long and powerful looking. I love it... the colors, the dagger, the tail, her ears.... all wonderful!

:-) James Milligan replies: "I wanted to put in seven piercings on her ear, because that is how many the real Natalie has, but I was unable to figure out placements properly. I really like her tail, and I wish I'd found a way to make it more even in its thickness (the pencils were good - the inks, not so good), but as it is, I'm pretty proud of this, yeah. 2"

Wow! Amazing, a bit of a departure from your usual style. I love the color choice. I'm taking lessons in coloring with photoshop and now that I know a little I'm even more impressed with people who do it well. It's hard!

Awesome work as usual, my boy. I love the colors, especially. Good anatomy, good color, good pose.

I love the tail

Neh... I can't say as it's really all that awesome. I dunno, I just don't like it. Dosen't fit in with how I see a mermaid, and kind of ugly, I think. The right breast also looks like it could use some work.

Still, artistically good. I love the tail, excepting the flesh-color. Keep it up.
