'I watched her from the shore, as the clouds rolled in over the horizon. The water rippled around her as she pulled herself up out of it as easily as you or I might stand to our feet after sitting for a moment. She smiled at a small turtle on the rock, next to her, as she pulled a brush from a small cache on the rock as though by magic, and the turtle bobbed its head as she spoke to it, and I swear to you that I heard it speak. An otter popped up from the waves, and barked at her in greeting, sounding almost reverent. She leaned over and scratched it on the head, calling it by name and bidding it stay. And I stayed there, watching her, until the storm broke overhead, and the waves rose so high they threatened to cap the cliffs, and like a frightened child, I ran.

But before I did, I heard her call to me, by name, and bid me come with her. And one day, I shall.

The color version of the Sea Queen's Repose, second in a series of mermaids done for Natalie Paquette. The line art version is also around the gallery somewhere.

Beautiful, Jim. Excellent colors, and I especially like the pose. It's very natural.

Very attractive this time. She looks soft, gentle, like she'd love to hug and kiss. It's a very soft scene, very sweet. You want to give her a back rub - then more onto more fleshy areas. 10

Excelent work. Just beautiful.
