This is the oversized prototype of the Dragon Snail™ series.
VERY mixed media. (Beeswax and K-Bond, among other things, over a styrofoam armature. Sculpey horns.)

Click here for more pictures of this piece.

Update 10/07:  I repainted the eyes (which used to be green) and uploaded a better pic of this piece.

These dragonsnails of yours are quite nice. This one I like because the wax makes him (her?) look oozy around the bottom, as snails should 2. Great work!

:-) Erin ´EireWolf´ Metcalf replies: ""Oozy" is such a great word. Thanks for the comment! "

LOVELY!! Even better than Dragon Snail 2, which I looked at first! I like the shell. . .And the color. . .And the horns. . .And the face. . .BY DARNED I LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!! BRAVO!!

:-) Erin ´EireWolf´ Metcalf replies: "He's so happy that somebody likes him better! He was sad because he thought he was being replaced... but you've brightened his day. Thanks! ^__^"

If it didn't sound so much like a an Israeli submachine gun, I think "oozy" would be a good name for the next one. 12

:-) Erin ´EireWolf´ Metcalf replies: "You *would* think so.... Actually, it's kinda' cute! "

I wish I had the knowledge and materials to do something even a 1% good out of the 100% you did ^_^ .... He looks like a friendly creature you can just let cuddle against your neck, hehe. The shell itself is a work of art all on its own: and the horn looks perfect. Great work here, the shape and the colors. I want you to make me one... :'(

:-) Erin ´EireWolf´ Metcalf replies: "Thanks Kristina! I had a very good teacher, who knows a lot about materials. I couldn't have created this guy without her help. If you seriously want me to make you one, email me about a commission! Thanks for the nice comments."

I love how you've made him slimey ^-^

:-) Erin ´EireWolf´ Metcalf replies: "Thanks! Using the wax was a lot of fun."

I think it's the shell I like best on this one. This is my favorite out of all your works, I believe... Mostly because of the shell, horns, and texture. I like the expressions on your other dragon snails. May I suggest a dragon snail with eyestalks? More snail-ish, and it would also be an interesting piece, I believe.

:-) Erin ´EireWolf´ Metcalf replies: "That shell was really fun to carve out of styrofoam.

So this is your favorite, eh? That's good to hear; he hasn't gotten a whole lot of love. Maybe I'll drag him out of his box and tell him somebody likes him! ^_^

I've thought about a dragon snail with eyestalks. Perhaps I shall have to think about it some more..."

Very good! I like it! It could be a bit smoother, but bumply is probly what dragon snails look like 2he is very cute! I think you should make a whole line of kids toys! Or collector items! Very good!

:-) Erin ´EireWolf´ Metcalf replies: "Thanks! It would be fun to make toys, if I could figure out a way to make them indestructible and easily mass-producible. Oh yeah, and safe for kidlets. :-p

This one is meant to be bumpy-textured; the texture comes from drizzled beeswax. My smaller (polymer clay) Dragon Snails tend to be smooth though. "

thats really cool I really like the detail in the eyes and horns.

:-) Erin ´EireWolf´ Metcalf replies: "Thank you! I’m glad you like them. I repainted the eyes; they used to be green and a bit less realistic."
