SciFi and Fantasy Art Potbellied Mouse Faery by Erin ´EireWolf´ Metcalf

This little guy was inspired by the work of Brian Froud. His face is a little dog-like (I mean the fae, not the Froud), but his hands and feet are decidedly mousey. Is he coming to tickle you, or to slay you with his mighty feather?

Polymer clay, acrylic paint, feather from an unsuspecting bird. 6 1/2'' tall.

*UPDATE 4/5/04: I changed the wings! The new ones are fabric and translucent Sculpey. *See Mightier Than The Sword for the repainted version, or click here for more pics.*

It is so nice to see an atypical faery that isn’t a skinny woman with butterfly wings. This is really great you’ve done a wonderful job, I can see why it got a Mod’s choice. I could critique it, but the only thing I didn't fancy (the wings) have been redone, so my critique would be quite short. lol. So will you ever post the newer version of this, I'd love to see the wings now.

Best to you, C Erin ´EireWolf´ Metcalf replies: "Thanks very much! I actually repainted this one... sorry to mar your favorite color! But the paint was starting to rub off, and I wanted to make it lighter anyway. I realized I have to glaze or seal it somehow, either before or after painting, or else the paint is ephemeral when handled regularly. In any case, the repaint is "Mightier Than the Sword." It's still sort of a mottled blue-gray, just a lighter mottled blue-gray. ^__^ Thanks for your comments!"
