The visceral elements of the darkness here represents the internal nature of this picture. The darkness is depression and all of its oppressive elements. Sometimes when you feel you are surrounded by the darkness, you feel like you are a part of it too, which makes it all the more impossible to grasp things like small hopes - especially when your hands are dirty. That's just what I was thinking when I painted this, but you know, it's also just a freaky dark-fae chick with spectres and demons surrounding her :)
