Taluril is a young siren who comes to shore in the evenings to watch the comings and goings there. This was a fun commission, and the character belongs to A. Stewart. She thought she had challenged me, until I told her that I pretty much only ever drew mermaids in highschool, at least in my spare time. So this was a good piece of nostalgia, thank you. And I kept thinking about mangos and guavas and other tropical fruits, which is probably why I was craving juice all the time.  Sorry about the nudity, but I usually prefer more naturalistic mermaids, and bikinis are more a man-made thing than a fishy thing to me.

I recently did a speed-paint revamp of this picture, approx 4-5 hours playing with a few ideas and techniques.

May 2006. Repainted June 2008.

Hah I think that, reading your comment about mermaids thinking bikinis to be a type of hat, you should draw a mermaid wearing a bikini like a hat and laughing with her friends as they try on bikini tops in all different ways, other than across the chest! If you ever do decide to draw that, I’d love to know, since it tickled my fancy!!

I did love the cool misty colours and face of the older version, but the sunset backlighting and orange tones in this one are really striking! The shipwreck and her expression give it much more of a sinister feeling, too.

Yep, a bikini is probably not a thing mermaids would actually wear. Maybe seaweed or something constructed of ocean type things. Not seashells though. *Makes a face*

I love her hair, and the intense expression she has. Definately a siren.
