Riddle Two

O thou of phoenix birth,

Who riseth in the toil of the land,

Who in sun blindeth all who deign behold

Thy tempered voice is sharp and sweet,

Thy might shatters land and castle

Only to break at the face of a stone

Only to drown in the depths of the sea,

and turn to pitch or roan.

Another good one, and it sounds like steel, but steel doesn't turn to pitch nor does it drown, so could it be wheat? But that doesn't glare in the sun, does it?

I would guess it is rain

A sword from flame is borne, needed to defend or conquer, polished to a brilliant shine to blind one in the sun reflected, singing sweet tones as through the air it cleaves, and in heros hand can conquer all, yet shatter on a rock if struck, and lost to all if dropped into waters deep, or tarnish from neglect and rust away into the earth from where was borne, a sword per chance, a sword?

Wow I Love this one! Its gonna take me a while to figure it out. I think maybe a crop of some sort.

Fire-- it gives birth to the phoenix, it can destroy land/castle, can’t hurt stone, and goes out by water. I’m sure it fits everything else the riddle said, but I’m too lazy to find out.
