A parable. Credit to my sister for the idea. Also stands alone.

Once upon a time there were five old men. One was a Muslim, one was a Hindu, one was a Jew, one was a Christian, and one was an atheist. These five men were all great friends, but they were always arguing with one another about religion.

“My way is right,” said the Muslim.

“No, mine is the right way,” said the Hindu.

“You are both wrong,” said the Jew. “The Lord is the only God.”

“Jesus Christ is God,” the Christian said.

“There is no god,” scoffed the atheist.

After several years, the time came for the five men to die.

“Now we will see Allah and the Prophet,” said the Muslim, his eyes shining.

“We will become one with Brahman and see the Mahadevas,” the Hindu responded.

“God is lord of all,” said the Jew. “It is only him we will see.”

“We will see Jesus,” the Christian said flatly.

“We won’t see anyone,” laughed the atheist. “We’ll be dead.”

And so they died. When they reached the light of heaven, all of them cried out.

“Look! There is Allah!” cried the Muslim.

The Hindu said, “There are the Mahadevas!”

The Jew said, “There is the Lord God!”

And the Christian said, “There’s Christ!”

But the atheist looked around and said, “Where?”

Funny. *dances the first comment blade dance with a particularly nasty chem imp, but wins gracefully and ends with a dashing pirouette* Cracked a smile on me. A note though, people may take it the wrong way. There is an implication (perhaps intended or perhaps not) that truth is whatever you make it to be, and thus not absolute. I know for a fact that this is not true, because I am a human. I've believed at times that I was a squirrel, unfortunately my belief, strong as it was did not turn me into a squirrel. *pouts* Nevertheless, this is witty and the perfect length. Question: What would someone who believes simply in a nameless ambiguous "force" see? Just wondering...

1 Emilie Aurora Finn replies: "Hey Segun! Glad this made you smile in spite of your chem imps! That was the idea. As for truth not being absolute, I suppose if people want to take it that way, they can, I know some believe that, though personally I don't. I agree that there is an implication of that here, though you could just as easily argue that it means truth encompases all beliefs.LOL In answer to your question, I don't know. Maybe then they'd see what's "really there"!"

LOL Well that was what I call tongue in cheek! Very clever Em.

Haha - nice!! I don't think that people should take this the wrong way and I don't really think you need to answer any questions about it. It is what it is. Which is a nice portrayal of your (or your muses, or some completely invented 'author persona's) personal beliefs or opinions in a nutshell (and thus, unreproachable) 1

12 Emilie Aurora Finn replies: "Probably my sister's opinion, if anyone's at all, since she functioned as the muse for this one and gave me the idea. Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!"

Hahahahaha. Most excellent! Only short but sweet and hits home a serious point within the humour.
I'm reading the ending as if they were all right. They all believed what they wanted to believe and all saw what they wanted to see.
You ever watch Babylon 5? Just this reminded me of a scene (loosely) at the end of series 2 where Kosh leaves his containment suit. Everyone sees something different, that is from their own religion. Well if you didn't watch it, you won't have the slightest idea what I'm talking about.
Either way, an excellent point well made 1

12 Emilie Aurora Finn replies: "Nope, never watched Babylon 5, but I think I get the idea. *grin* I'm glad you like this! I'm not interpereting the ending any way at all myself. People must see it however they see it. Thanks, Matthew!"

Yay! I like that one! (comment hopping does have it's good points, I suppose) That's really cool. Good job.

1 Emilie Aurora Finn replies: "Thank you! I'm glad you liked it! (Yes, comment hopping is quite fun. I wish I had more time for it. *kicks busy Real Life schedule*)"

*giggles* Short, but to the point and good.

A short comment for a short piece. ;p Seriously, though? I enjoyed the thinking this makes a person do.

It's good to see a lighter approach to such a serious theme. ^-^ A good piece of metaphysics and philosophy.

2 Emilie Aurora Finn replies: "Thank you, Shanra! I'm glad to see you back on my page, and glad you liked this little piece! It's been too long since I've visited yours... *adds to to do list*"
