Horace the Gargoyle is quite a friendly soul. He's done his bit hanging around on church roofs, but doesn't feel it's really him, so he's currently running a delivery service. You may ask how I know that he's on a job at the moment, but all you need do is note the size of his lower jaw. Gargoyles are reknowned for being able to store a whole cow in their mouth pouches before dragging the huge weight off to hide somewhere. However, this is rarely done by anyone except the young bucks trying to impress each other, because it doesn't half hurt, dragging your chin across stones and all that. A sensible gargoyle chews the cow in half, runs and hides the first half quickly, before running back to find the rest in the hope that someone else hasn't nicked it before he gets back.* Gargoyles are surprisingly speedy in flight, because you wouldn't expect them to be able to fly at all. Occaisionally they can labouriously out-manouver pigeons. However, Horace is very speedy in his loping canter, and can keep going all day if he has a long journey to make, particularly with a good tail wind, as he makes good use of his wings to make his leaps longer. Currently he is delivering watermelons. He cunningly put them all into a sack first to stop them getting all spitty and slimey, and also because gargoyles are notoriously bad at eating their greens - they tend to eat only meat, lichen** and certain kinds of rock.*** Horace is currently rolling in it, in gargoyle terms, and is considering saving up to buy a delivery-hat with his name on it.

I drew this in literature and finished it all in one day! I sketched him because I was curious about how a weird head-shape would work. He started off with normal, if big eyes, but I decided three pairs would look both cooler and more realistic than the one he had. He started off as pencil shading, but then I decided that he may as well be grey-green, and the colouring went from there. I'm on a roll - Flame-Crested Hippocampus finished yesterday, Horace today. What tomorrow? Hmmmm. Who knows?

*Have you ever seen a hamster storing food? Rather like that.
**Noone knows why
***This is another reason for their slowness of flight. Horace has taken to eating smaller and lighter stones to make his deliveries quicker.

:-) Emma G. Absolon replies: "Thankyou! The whole point in drawing the picture was to draw something with an odd skull."

Poor poor Horace why does he run a delivery service.

:-) Emma G. Absolon replies: "Horace LIKES delivering! He has lots of money, stays fit and it was his own idea! (He's very attractive for a gargoyle you know) Admittedly, he's not in the main league of it, that's humans, but since gargoyles do not need clothes, housing, can literally live off the land and find tax-collectors very edible, Horace has bags of money, mostly secreted away in his mouth-sac."
