He was originally supposed to be in love with a unicorn in another picture, but when  I tried to put him into that picture, he (the unicorn) wouldn't play ball (no euphemism intended). Out of pity for the broken-hearted Renkon, I gave him is own picture.

And yes, I know that Renkon means lotus root in Japanese
