SciFi and Fantasy Art Atlantis by Erin Redshaw

This colorful creature is a citizen of the lost city of Atlantis. Hence the blue skin and fin-like ears ;p I was originally going to make her blue-skinned and green-haired, going for an ocean-colored palette, but I tried out the orange and loved the contrast (what with orange and blue being complementary colors and all). This one is done in an entirely different medium, pastels. I like them, but they're quite messy and it's hard to achieve fine detail. I wish I could've fitted her entire head on the page, but I started drawing too close to the edge. Again, this is based on a sketch I did in class (but it was English class this time ;p)

18 Jun 2004	Anonymous	Loading... I really like it - the colors, the eyes, the hair, pretty much everything. The face is a little flat, but that's okay. My pastel pictures are all smudged. I don't know how you made it this good. hmm... Anyways, I think you should make one with more of her hair and body showing just because I like the picture and want to see more of this person. Erin Redshaw replies: "Thanks! Yeah, the hairstyle I came up with is really nifty-looking in the back, but you can't see it cuz I ran off the page <.> I may do that, though. "
18 Jun 2004	Provolony	Loading... The colors are awesome, but just a small suggestion, on your profiles. You kinda tend to make the faces a little to flat. I'd suggest maybe remebering that the front of the face isn't really a flat plane, and that the side of the face takes up more room horizontally. Maybe if you look at people's faces more you'll see what I mean. But that's just my take. I love the colors though :?D Erin Redshaw replies: "Yeah, I know, I have major issues with profile-drawing. This is as good as it gets for now, but I"m gonna keep practicing!"
18 Jun 2004	Maartje Roest	Loading... Tries to do a very complicated first comment dance, but falls down er...right... Anyway, I love the colours you used for the pic. The colour of the hair looks wonderful, especialy 'cause the skin is blue and the background green. Like you said, being complementary colors and so. Looks really great. I also love the detail you've managed to put in it. I know I couldn't have done that with pastels. When I work with pastels there are stains all over the whole drawing. Oh, and I also wanted to say I like the ears. I don't believe I've seen such ears on Elfwood before. Very well done. It's beautiful. Erin Redshaw replies: "Thanks so much! Yeah, pastels are really hard to use and they're very messy. I think I'll stick to my watercolors. "
14 Jul 2004	VEGA	Loading... wow, that's a zoomed in pic. nice though that ear......funky, yet kewl looking. I can't see how I would function though. Oh well I guess function isn't the point here is it? kewl hair, the blue and red to go very well together. And then there's the braid work, very nice, again Erin Redshaw replies: "Thanks! ^_^ Yeah, the ear isn't really functional as an ear, it's more like an extra fin for aerodynamics or something shrug I dunno. "
16 Oct 2005	Dragonfly	Loading... I love the hair!! I think I may try to do that with mine now, although it'll just turn out to be a GIANT mess...oh well... But I do really love the hair, and the ear! Erin Redshaw replies: "Thanks! I love drawing intricate hair, it's just so much fun...^_^"
