The subject matter isn't special...what's special about this picture is that it's my FIRST EVER Photoshop picture...I found this awesome tutorial online, practiced with it, and then tried the techniques on my own picture (by mouse--which made it a huge pain)...I normally don't do furries, but I didn't want to go with something TOO far from what the tutorial was teaching on my first time.

There's not a WHOLE lot of story about the character...he is inspired by and named for an enormous alaskan dog that used to live next door named Akita...I figure this is a young member of an arctic tribe who has just been considered old enough to be a hunter--but as you can tell, he's a little uncertain about the calling.

I like it. Far from professional quality, but not bad for a first try in my opinion.

oooooo **first comment jig-slide and CRACK!.....face-connecting-with-floor* Oooooo I like this one a lot. For a first try EVER, this is awesome, heck, for a fiftieth try ever, this is awesome. I love the emotion in his face, he does look a bit confused, like he isnt really sure what to do with the spear or more like, he's thinking "I have to do WHAT with this?? You expect me to KILL something?? I didnt know that was part of the job...." ^_^ Very cute. I love the backgroudn too, nottoo complicated, so it doesnt take away from him. Ugh.. I can nver get their shadows right... I always put it to the wrong side... Nnnngh.
Anyways, thanks for commenting at my place, keep up the good work, (and dont let college drain you of Fantasy-ness!!! FIGHT BACK! =^.^=)

Conley replies: "Well thanks! 19) Yeah that's about the expression I was going for...he doesn't seem too eager to take on his new role! ;o) He's kind of a wimp but oh so cute 19) as for the shadows, well, the nice thing about this picture is there's no obvious light source, so there wasn't really any wrong way to do it ;o) And I'm trying not to get the fantasy art sucked out of me! *clings to Elfwood* Thanks for stopping by and commenting! 19)"

Aww, he's so cute!

1 Erin N. Conley replies: "*grin* He's trying to be a grown-up now so he'd probably growl at you for calling him cute, but I'm glad you think so ;o) Thanks very much!"

What can I say? "Simple but effective", yup, that says it. Nice face. I wonder what he's looking at? I also like the spear.

1 Erin N. Conley replies: "I'm not sure...maybe he's looking at the animal he's supposed to hunt, nervous about having to kill it. But I didn't have anything in mind when I drew it. Thanks!"

Maybe try to make the spear longer than the body, so it seems more realistic.
