One for sadness,
two for mirth;
Three for marriage,
four for birth;
Five for laughing,
six for crying:
Seven for sickness,
eight for dying;
Nine for silver and for gold;
Ten, a secret never to be told.

(The rhyme is quite old and there are many different versions, all with vague origins dating back to the 1800s and earlier.)

Amazing..wonderful...perfect! You deserve a MODS.

:-) Lisa Eshkenazi replies: "I deserve MODS!!?? Like my very own moderators? That can be my slaves!?!

That’d be awesome. XD
(I’m joking, of course. Well...I’m not. That would be awesome. But I knew what you meant. And thank you!) 2"

I thought that only worked with Magpies. But then Maggies always travel in twos so the rhyme is nonsense 12
You really have to pause to take in all the detail again. 12 Beautiful.

:-) Lisa Eshkenazi replies: "There are *so* many different versions of that rhyme. They speculate that the ones that use crows originated in North America after colonization because crows are so common here. This was half inspired by all the ravens that live where I do so that’s why I went with them. Well...that and solid black birds are easier to paint than ones with white markings. ^^;

*lazy*"

wow, i first thought it was 8 for dying since she was holding that, er, thing that death always seems to hold on;-) but then i counted more... what about the white one, what does he mean? you’ve made it all very mystical and nice!!! i love the colours! the rhyme is very nice - but i’ve also known it for magpies and only up to 7;-)

:-) Lisa Eshkenazi replies: "Hmmm...well. The white crow just appears in several of my paintings. I’m not sure he means anything really. He’s just making a cameo because he has lots of secrets so it seemed fitting for him to be there. Also, since her wings are two toned, I wanted two colors of ravens.

There are so many versions of that poem that it was hard to choose which one to use. I did almost use magpies but then decided I liked crows better for this painting. "

Amazing picture! loving the detail of her wings and tattoos and how realistic the crows are 1 Also seems to have a day and night theme going on with the white part of the wings being in day light and the black feathers being more in the dark. Also liking the detail of the end of the scythe, how it looks like part of a crows tallon 2 This cant not go in the favorite gallery 1
