SciFi and Fantasy Art Gargoyles by Lisa Eshkenazi

This was for a friend's contest. The main guideline of the contest was the piece had to involve one of his characters and since he loves crossovers, I used on of his (Kale) and one my own (Angela).

This turned out quite different than I intended in both the tone and overall composition but I still like it. The characters have remarkably similar personalities (neurotic and occasionally grouchy) in addition to both being troubled by not being truly 'human.' They're also both really short.

The title and general theme of them sitting on a rooftop is from a scene in one of Anthony's stories where Kale is likened to a short, irate gargoyle. :)

Kale belongs to YourPleasantDarkness on DA but I've drawn and posted him with permission so no worries. :)

I love how you draw hair. And that little celtic knot is an awesome detail. Lisa Eshkenazi replies: "^_^ This turned out with much stronger romantic overtones that I wanted originally. These characters are sneaky I tell ya...XD Angela sheds feathers when she gets nervous so I figure Kale just picked one up because he has a crush on her. ^_^ I think she kicking him because he’s staring at her chest. "

28 May 2009	Allison L. Miller	Loading... I like it! truly inspiring! I wonder, did you use water color in the painting? And also, how long did it take for you to make it? When I first saw this painting, and before I read you little description of it, I was inwardly assuming it was the classic "bad boy meets good girl" kind of thing, since she looks like an angel and his wings make him look like...one of the other ones, lol. I love the detail and how the painting pretty much tells a story all in itself. Great work! Lisa Eshkenazi replies: "Yes, I did use watercolors. I...do not remember how long it took though. Probably around 10-12 hours (ish). Kale is part demon (and part dragon too. Magical experiments ftw!) but he’s actually a very nice (if a little strange) guy. ^_^ Angela is also part faerie...just, that particular fey race has feathered wings. XD So yeah. ^_^"
