Heart's  Cathedral

In a cathedral of the heart

Midnight silver spills forth

Through stained glass windows

Pooling smooth on worn stones below

Where song treads

Its footsteps deep and slow

To the rhythm of divine voices

Echoing chants down serene hallways

And the drum beat of a soul

Dancing in a rain of falling notes

As prayers ascend on dreaming wings

Far above the tear-streaked sea

In the cathedral of your heart

Where you will find me

O t h e r   S e l f

I can see
But I am blind
I can hear
But I am deaf
I can walk
But I am paralyzed
I am whole
But I am in pieces
I can talk
But there is silence
I am sane
But all is madness

a l o n e

In a castle of my own
I danced in hallways
Wandered rooms
Silence was my listener
Nodded to my song
Smiled in his tears

Life has always been this way
A song in silence
Nobody has really heard me sing as I truly am.
I have always listened to your song
Smiled softly
Never interfering
Maybe I thought you could do the same
In a trembling beginning
Now dead and lost with all hope it ever had

Back to the castle
A dance to a heart felt song
The sun is dying
Silence is my companion again
I sit in a throne full of flowers
And silence smiles and bows his head

Esther, I absolutely adored 'Heart's Cathedral'. The imagery was just incredibly beautiful. I could hear the slow heartbeats echoing down the empty, vaulted corridors.... wonderful.

I think "Other Self" was my favourite, contrary to what everyone else seems to think. It's just so... I was actually thinking about something like it the other day. Strange, no? "I sit in a throne full of flowers / And silence smiles and bows his head"... you have the most powerful language when you write, and again, as James said above... the imagery, woman, the imagery!

I will say that Alone appealed to me in structure alone, as the words were beautifully chosen, and the poem just felt well-crafted, by a mind unlike mine. But they carried a theme that I can now see as I feel that way now, with my girlfriend, but I still feel alone, I from time to time wait for her with a smile, just as you say, and try to be patient, try to not expect so that it will all just happen... You write my feelings well, even if that is not what you meant to write. Perhaps you meant something else. But I feel less alone because I know I am not the only one lonely. It is a beautiful poem. I love it.

i think 'other self' was perhaps my favourite, because it was so full of contradiction, but the last couple of lines pulled it all together. i suppose it's possible to be all those things when you're slightly unhinged. i can see the enigma influence in heart's cathedral, despite the fact that i have only heard a couple of their songs. it really reminded me of york minster, one of the most beautiful man made structures i've spent time in.

I thought your poem was exceptionall good. I see that many people liked it too. I think you have a lot of potential skills in writing. Good Luck!

I don't quite know why, but these poems really give me the chills, especially the last. I found myself hardly taking in the actual words but just feeling this strange sense of loneliness and trepidation. It probably has little to do with the poem, but the feelings were very real. You've got quite a talent to be able to do that.

These words you've writ here are very lovely, and I appreciate the variance in form and the fonts as well. Its nice to see someone playing with writing, and it makes the works themselves more enjoyable.

:16tanding ovation:: Wonderful, all of them. I think I'll send my Muse to take lessons from yours, if you don't mind.

I agree totally with "Alone". And Hearts Cathedral is so in tune with one's instincts rather than their mind, that I don't even remember what I just read in it.

Ooooh.... these were all beautiful... I especially liked 'Alone', because somehow I can relate to it more then to the others.

All of them were easy to visualise and had a good flow to them.

You wrote these wonderfully and I hope that one day I might be as good as you.
