Summer of Yesterday

Yesterday
Hidden behind a wall of smiling faces
Pushed and crammed into your mind’s dark crevice
Beneath the life you walk now
Even the darkness cannot mask the trembling tear
Caught fearful in her eye
Nor the hard lump of stone
Laid heavy in her eggshell heart
Storm grey glances at her in silence
Save for the sound of something breaking
In the cold winter rain
When your sun-browned hand held her’s

Yesterday
Where two paths converge on a corner
You and she drank the summer
In cups of gold and silver
Puppy dog tongues relishing its sparkling haze
Rocked by the breeze and carried by the wind
You and she drifted on life’s playground
Twirling and dancing with fairies and elves
Swimming and spinning with mermaids and sprites
Eager hands clutched a pallete of colours
Painting adventures in fairytales read by sleepy eyes
Closing in dreams of the next day together
Where one was not far behind the other
Even though you ran so fast
You always waited
For she who stumbled and fell
And cried when she had thought she had lost you
Her best friend
You made her smile
When your sun-browned hand held her’s

Yesterday
Where two paths converge on a corner
Swept by a familiar summer breeze
In its golden embrace
I remember
When your sun-browned hand held mine

Sometimes there are no words but tears...And there will always be...tears...

This poem is so descriptive, and beautifully woven like yarns into a blanket. I can definitely feel the sense you portrayed of longing, yearning for a person. I can really feel this poem when I read it. In a way, it is a little ironic that the circumstances surrounding what the poem is about are sad, but your memories seem to be so happy that it is like the reader is looking back into your past, into your happy memories. It's a lovely poem, really it is. Oh, and by the way.. thank you for the uplifting words you left about my poetry. 2The memories are happy, that's what makes it so sad...Ah, the irony.

I'm speechless. This is too deep, too true, for words.

~chokes back her tears~ This one has affected me beyond deeply...they say that "time heals all" I disagree..thank you for sharing more of your soul so openly and painfully.Time heals in a way, but the wound is always there under the surface...

*Sniffles* This poem is so emotionally charged, I felt it leap off my screen and grab hold of my thoughts, twisting them to memories I'd long ago forgotten. You nearly moved me to tears, Esther. You are amazing.I am moved to touch you so deeply. I hope the forgotten memories weren't too hard to face...

*sighs heavily* This one reminds me of a friend of mine, makes me appreciate every small moment we spend together. You never know when it may disappear.
You are truly inspirational. I don't know what it is about your choice of words, but it really strikes a chord. It's also nice to read work from someone at home. You can bet I'll be back

It's so descriptive it's like you can take people you know and put them in the poem if you wanted. this poem is beautifully written.
