Vanquished by night day turns away
As darkness tears the sun from the sky
Her last dwindling glimmer reaches out for me
Fallen amongst the wreckage of a world dying
She calls and dances on the precipice of my mind
Lighting its attic strewn with cob-webbed dreams
Flickering flames warm and draw me close
Gutters cold upon my awakening
Within this perpetual winter tomb
Where you abandoned me

Alone
I cry
Tears to melt the hearts of stone
Yet unmoved and silent they stand
Forgotten halls and crumbling masonry
Faceless statues with cracked souls
Bleeding bitterness
They gaze blindly beneath a mask of shadows

This existence you bestowed on me
I believed in a betrayer
I lay drowning in the dark sea of your eyes
Enchanted by your beauty
As you devoured my soul

And so I came to devour others
To see my feverish rage mirrored in their eyes
An eternal unquenchable thirst burning its icy fire
Deep in the abyss of this scavenger
Come to ravage the lost soul
And in the madness restore one's own

I search for you
The one who gave me up
To the ghosts and the cold moonlight
I saw you in my dreams
I watched you sleep so peacefully
Your face as rosy as mine was pale
Glutted on my blood and life you stole
In my hands I held a stake
Sharpened by my pain
I raised it prepared to strike
In its plunge
To redeem the devil
And grant me peace
You open your eyes
The stake falls
And I fall
I will never be free
I love you still

This poem is pure brilliance.
Really. Wow.
Don't know what else to write. I think that Ling-Ling Dun's interpretation really says it all.
I'll have to admit though, that I didn't understand this poem at first. I have a tendency to read things a little too quick I'm afraid.
But after re-reading it I understood.
Some Gothic poems, especially vampiric ones, tend to be a little too dark for my taste - and the reader gets too caught up in the vampire him/herself.
This poem is more about the feelings of anguish and rage that the speaker of the poem feels, and that without forgetting the speaker him/herself.
Like I said; this is pure brilliance, Esther.
Keep it up, please!

I really like the lines, "The one who gave me up
To the ghosts and the cold moonlight"
The narrator seems very strong, very...very...I can't think of the word, but it's in all the comments above. ^.^ This is wonderful, gripping and sad and beautiful.

Very cool. I would have to say that this is a first for me, I never read a poem quite like this before. I have always had an interest in vampires. Very cool!

Quite frankly, I am very impressed with the poem - your skills are quite formidable. The most interesting and alluring fact is that the concept of the Vampire is taken most seriously in this poem, contrary to what they have become today - a child's fantasy on Halloween.

Its actualy quite moving if you think about it... But i really like this poem, you made it so you can feel the emoshion in your self when it changed with the poem. I really like it when you can make it so people can connect with the "story" poem.

Beauty in the words of woe. Bleeding bitterness. Art of words. I'm blown. The deepness the atmosphere. You're a weaving writer. Best of words.
