While browsing on the Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab perfume site http://www.blackphoenixalchemylab.com/ deciding on my first order, someone suggested I try the scent "Thaleia". As soon as I clicked on the description, I knew I had to paint a series on the Muses! I was literally inspired by the Muses in this case, it just goes to show that inspiration can strike in the most wonderfully unexpected places!  :D

Since Thaleia, the Muse of Comedy, was the original inspiration, I decided to paint her first. A warm, merry, goddess, Thaleia was often depicted with the classic mask of Comedy, and a shepherd's crook, to symbolize her affinity for pastoral poetry.
