-- Celeste, just ten minutes before, had been happier than she had ever thought imaginable; the family had brought her to an amusement park, and she'd just taken the youngest boy, Robert, on the ferris wheel with a large cloud of pink cotton candy to distract them both from the terrifying height. And coming down from that high that came from a little mortal fear, she'd laughed as Robert ran back to his mother, jabbering all the way about how brave he was to have soared up into the sky. But just as suddenly, an unsavory terror caused the breath to catch in her throat - a man, unnamed, unnoticed, had wrapped his arm around her throat and threatened her with a gun. Like any ordinary woman, she'd screamed without thinking - and he'd brought that cold, unforgiving metal down across her face as he loosened his grip at her neck, expecting her to fall unconcsious and bleeding as the other fair-goers screamed for help. But she had stood. Miraculously, she was little more than dazed - and where bone would have bruised or shattered, wet metal gleamed in the brilliant afternoon sunlight. Instinctively, she snapped his neck with a quick, fluid movement that left everyone, but mostly herself, horrified and speechless. So with a speed she never knew she had possessed, she'd run into the nearest building offered - a woman's bathroom, and apprehensively turned to greet herself in the mirror. Lifting one inhuman hand and placing it against the mirror, all thoughts faded from the circuitry that made up her brain. 'What... am I?'--

[It got smudged - I knew I shouldn't have drawn a background, but I did - and it got smudged. And then my scanner ate it. *sigh* It had such promise when I just had her face sketched out! *grumbles* .. Completed February 20, 2003 ]

Wow! I really like the background in all honesty. backgrounds seem to finalize pictures and set them apart from sketches or doodles. The hand. I really like what you were trying to do but I didn't quite get it until I read the description (neat little story btw). I think It's because the hand is completely falt against the mirror where if you had done it angles a bit, it would have been more clear. One more thing on that, if the mirror image and the hand look the same, and by this I mean that the mirror would be dirty in a public bathroom and the image would be slightly more 'grainy'. But I think you did an amazing job with the face and all shading that goes along with that. With that, I think the hand is remarkable. I guess I'll end with saying that the eye is just so darn creepy. Just floating there in the blackness... *shiver*. Good job 2.

:-) Natalie Paquette replies: "Argh. That hand. I don't even know how many times I redrew that darn thing. It was really difficult to do this without a good reference - I tried using my own hand against a mirror, but that was 3-D, and my perspective was off, and I couldn't keep my hand there while I was drawing with the other one - my sketchbook kept falling off of my lap! .. This piece was a practice in patience. A lot of my newer work is - because I'm really trying to push myself now. (I miss taking art classes.... *sigh*) Thank you for commenting, as always - and leaving in-depth feedback for me. 12 [And yes, I know - it is creepy!!]"

Very unique story behind this pic, you obviously put a lot of thought into it 2 I love it!

:-) Natalie Paquette replies: "Thank you. 12 The story just.. came to me, while I was drawing this piece. I guess the image "spoke to me" (how cheesy sounding can I get?)"

I still think this is one of your better pieces, emotion and story-wise. I like it! 2

Wow...
that was the coolest story ever!
The picture sent chills up my spine!
I thought she was going in the bathroom
to throw up,but that wouldn't be a good
picture!!

:-) Natalie Paquette replies: "Heh. I wonder what she would throw up...? Oil?"
