"Folks: Banshees" by Anita Schmidt Pabst

Banshees are the descendants of the ghost-like faeries whose scream predicts an approaching death.
they adapted to our world - things like a solid body and males were quite useful - and have little similarities left with their ancestors who are still living the faerie world.
but still a female banshee can foresee the approaching possible death of her beloved ones and warn them, one of the reasons female banshees are very high respected among their men.
both genders have telepathic and empathic powers and can be reborn in their old body if they die a violent death and wish to live on till they die a natural one. how soon they are reborn varies from years to those who seem to be immortal.
the younger banshee generations tend to develop new powers that didn't appear before. Perhaps this can be explained by the fact that banshees still adapt to our world.
