Dec 15 2004

Scan of the central part of a drawing I made for Mona's 65th birthday (the rest of this rather huge painting is mostly filled with trees, cliffs , clouds and stars).

I worked on this almost round the clock for three days to get it done in time (spent the last fifteen minutes before my bus was leaving drying it with my hairdryer).

I whish I had been a little more observant and picked up on her birthday sooner since I'm not too happy about the background, it needed a bit more time in my opinion. Although in the cropped off foreground the trees are a lot(!) more detailed.

On the other hand I'm really pleased with the wings (for once!), all that practicing seems to be paying off a little. ^_^
Also, the return of the Monkey Island clouds! Wheeee!

Mediums: Watercolors, watercolor pencils and some gold gouache (not picked up by scanner).

What?! njo comments yet?! ::1st comment dance:: lol. Anywayz. very nice picture, the wings are wonderful...so detailed. and i love her dress, beautiful.i don't see anything wrong with the background, it looks great to me. the colors in this picture are amazing. they blend and contrast so well. Kudos!!

:-) Annika Freyah Nilsen replies: "Thankies, glad ya like it so much!
Well, if I had more time the beckground would not have looked so messy compared to the details of wings and dress, tho I supose that could be a good thing to not distract from it. I guess it just irks me that it was rushed job. ^_^"

you've played monkey island? *hugs*
I love those wings, and I think they're big enough to be plausable, too.

:-) Annika Freyah Nilsen replies: "Played them+ I've _worshipped_ the MI games, lol.
Then the new Sands of Time and Knights of the Old Republic games came out and the worshipness became a bit diluted, hehehe.
Glad ya like the wings!"

Beautiful. Pose reminds me of an old Persian Miniature I had to copy in school. The miniature was only human girls, though, none with such wonderful wings.
