Gea and her mother
by funnyquill

There is a legend buried deep under the gray shades of forgetfulness. That legend doesn't have base in science, doesn't have any witnesses and common sence doesn't go at it's hand. Still, it exists and erodes minds with it's questions. It was transferred from generation to generation in my family. First time when I heard it was while I was still a little boy. My grandfather told me. That legent talks about most important question which strains through human history like some kind of sticky thread. It talks about genesis.
While time was unknown fact and while universe was cold like souless revenge, IT was created. With it's beauty IT sherd boring colours of universe. IT had unbelievable strength, enough power to heat up the coldsest glaciers and masses of ice. IT was standing alone, and IT shined for nothing. But, soon came along new objects, smaller, confused, some of them cold, some hot, some without form, and some of them were round shaped. These objects named the big shiny thing Helia - on their language it ment mother. They were looking at her with hope, they saw her as guide, their maker. And so it was. Helia taught them secrets of univere. She watched them as her children. And like every mother she had her favourite child. Of course, like every mother she would never admitted. Still, she gave more attention and more of her golden-colour love to her pet. It was a small planet, still shrouded in chaos of storms and red eruptions. It was kind of lost, but with powerful will knit through it's oceans. Helia named her Gea. And so Gea grew and developed under loving care of Helia.
That love had strong effect upon Gea. Her eruptions calmed, wild storms came quiet and oceans pulled back and gave space for land. Already other planets looked upon Gea with jealously. And then, no one is sure how, on Gea sprung something for which niether Helia nor other planets knew what it was. It tickled her, but in a good way. She felt it moving on her surface, inside of her. It was Life. Live creatures started crawling, swiming and growing on Gea. Helia realized that her observation wasn't wrong, that Gea realy is special. And then she gave her even more love and more warmth.
Of course, other planets were mad with envy. Some of them cooled, other boiled with fury; but non of them ever speaked with their sister Gea.
With the help of life, Gea discovered passing, she discovered time. And a lot of time passed by before they appeared. They were Initiators, travelers through endless space. When they saw life on Gea they were amazed but not surprised. They saw it before, but still not like this. They watched mutiple life forms how they move, feed, breed, live and die on Gea. There were all kinds of creatures big and small of all colours and habits. But all of them missed something - what made them different from Initiators.
And Initiators attention was woken by one sort of creature, one species that showed most potential. Just like Gea, creatures didn't looked like much at first glance. They weren't biggest or fastest creatures. They weren't strongest or especially feral. And yet they had in them something distinct, something that cannot be identified. It was a talent that they shared with Helia and Gea. Initiators were fascinated by fact that members of that species help each other, that they stick together, that they care about each other. And that ascended that strange creatures above all others that Initiators met in universe.
So they watched them for some time, and then they decided to give a special gift that until now wasn't shared with anyone. Few was given a part of Initiators energy, their essence. Those who accepted it started to change. They began to use their hands to make objects to ease their life, they were more coordinated, more skilled and faster. They started to develop speach. All indicated that gift was the best thing Initators did.
But in the moment of greatest joy, man discovered it's biggest "triumph". Man discovered wepon. At first he used it to kill other species which he than consumed. He started to celebrate that brutal way of taking life force, he started to celebrate death. But that wasn't so upsetting to Initiators like the event on one rainy night when man discovered he can take another mans life. That he can silence him forever without waiting for time to take him or to wait for an old age to defeat his enemy. That event echoed most strogly and spread among men like a plague. It created chaos once again. Those with more gift in them attacked others and took their material goods. Initiators despaired but now it was too late. The only thing they could do was to destroy all human race and they didn't want that.
And so Initiators left Gea in sorrow, witouht traces of their existence. The only proof that they left was in humans. And humans, despite their destructive nature continued to develop. Soon they became great in numbers. And although they were isolated by other planets and Initiators, love of Gea and Helia remained. And the love was there even when humans turned against their mother Gea and lifegiving Helia. As mind and reason of humans kept growing so did their destructive force. And in time when it looked like that small and meaningless race will destroy their mother and themself, reason finaly came through and silenced the rage in humans.
Now we, the humans, are initators, traveling black space in search for golden rays of love among some other stars. We are searching for someone to give what was given to us so long ago. We are searching for a way to correct mistakes.

Interesting creation story. You do have some grammar/spelling errors. Usually dropping one or two letters out of a word, like "univere" instead of "universe."
It may make a good prelude to a longer story or something. *First comments dance*

Thank you for reading. I know, grammar is not my strong side, but I’m learning. I didn’t check my first stories properly - I was in a hurry to publish them 2 And this story was first written on Croatian, I guess I was too hasty translating it.
Anyway...I’m working on a new one, it’s near the end and I hope you will come to read it. I think there will not be as many errors as in this one 2 "

Hello 5
I found your story via google. It’s pretty crazy, but I had a nightmare that involved a "gea". She liked to eat innocent girls. Anyway, I was wondering if there was actually a mythical creature of such... evil... proportions.
This brings me to your tale.
I like the story, but I have to agree with Heidi, your grammar could use some work. One thing I noticed is you use the word "on" when you should be using "in". Easy mistake.
Also, when you begin to talk about the Initiators interacting with the humans you use the words "they" and "them" very often. It makes it a tad confusing for the reader.
Other than those two grammatical things, I can’t find anything wrong with your piece. It flows nicely and uses interesting verbs.

:-) Marijan Sruk replies: "Greetings!
Strange dream. Gea is usually not an evil creature. I don’t know if you found any information on it, but originally Gea was goddess of the old Greeks, mother of the first Titans. I’m glad you took the time to read my story and comment it. Thank you for that. It is really sad that there is no "edit" option to correct these grammatical errors. Now I am more careful while writing but sadly I don’t write that often any more.
Once again, thank you for the comment and come by again sometimes 2 Good luck with dreams 12"
