(continued from description of juvenile Lightling; see there)
As I was saying, when two juvenile Lightlings of ten or more standard years old combine, they form this, a mature Lightling. Mature Lightlings posses many magic powers, and commonly live for 200 to 300 standard years, after which they split up into the juvenile Lightlings that formed them. After splitting up, the juveniles will need another ten years before they can combine again. The average juvenile can go through this three times before dying definitively. The mature can also combine to form larger and even more powerful mature Lightlings; this can be done indefinitely.
Because they feed on zero point energy and do not consist of matter (so that they are not bothered by gravity or (lack of) air pressure), they can travel freely through space at light speed without equipment, and the mature can even warp time-space, enabling them to exceed light speed by performing hyperspace leaps.
Both forms of Lightlings commonly communicate by emitting light of certain frequencies, in other words, by chaging the colour of their core. They see and hear (spectral, ultraviolet or infrared) light and sound and any other type of wave pattern by feeling the resonance of their membranes. Mature Lightlings can also use their supernatural abilities to simulate articulated speech or radio waves, enabling them to cummunicate with other life forms and spacecrafts.
