Here would be an art trade I performed for the amazing Barbara J. Wickham.  You must all go visit her site, lest I smite thee. She is amazing, one of the best in my humble opinion. ^_^ In fact, if you'd like, you can see her half of the art trade here, where she's done an incredible rendition of my Trench Coats character, Rook.

Anyway, this is her character, Maggie, who one day found herself in another world. Here's a bit of the prompt I was given for the painting.

"There's a scene in the story where she is outside at night, sitting in the tall grass and staring up at the stars and contemplating about how strange it is to miss the constellations from her own world. She had never really paid that much attention to them before but only now when the night sky in this strange new land is full of completely different star patterns does she find herself really missing her home."

The title I chose for the painting is based on a song by Jenny Phillips, from her Parables fireside.  It's called "Tender Mercy" and the first phrase seemed to go through my head over and over and over again as I painted. (This is acrylic on a...sizeable canvas. Dunno, the dimensions; like two feet by one and a half or something. Sorry for the crumby, off-colored photo of it. The painting looks so much better in person.)

"I see the lights of home in the distance..."

I took nothing too literally this time Glo...
I read the description, then I ignored it... Not in a bad way, but not factoring it into my thoughts...
I stared at the painting(and close up), and I decided I wanted to write something from her perspective... A blue girl, being guided by the light of blue stars...
So I just sat there staring/writing for 2.5 hours...

I thought you would like it...

:-) Glo 'the Bug' Bowden replies: "I loved it, actually. I hope my tone didn’t imply otherwise!! It’s just that she’s not really meant to be blue. But you so perfectly interpreted nuances of feeling through your use of color, just like I was trying to literally do as I made the painting. So literal, but not literal. Intense work, my friend. 2.5 hours, eh? Wowsa. I suppose true art and poetry takes time. And you’re so much more of a poet than I am, I can see that in your comments (some of them ^_~)

I’ve told you time and again that you’re a crazy genius. You see the world through a different lens, and force me to look at my art in different ways. That’s why I love your comments, both the serious and the not-so-serious. Thank you for your beautiful response to this painting.

I didn’t see what had inspired you before. Wasn’t Parables such a great experience?

:-) Glo 'the Bug' Bowden replies: "Yeah. Good times. 2 I seem to recall the actual performance falling at an intense time for Mom and me. "

Wow, so awesome. I love the light, the feeling and the starry sky, and I can almost feel the wind. This picture really sucks me in and gets my imagination going. Also did I mention I love the sky?

:-) Glo 'the Bug' Bowden replies: "Thank you so much. I tried to put a lot of soul into this one, as it was a trade for an incredible artist and friend. "
