A pagan male deity of forests, plants, male fertility, and of all that is wild. Green man was very popular till the Middle-Ages to most european cultures. He was frequently depicted in medieval art, including church decorations.

Beautiful depiction of the Greenman. I've been going through quite a few Greenman images of late and this is one of the very best I have seen.

What did you use to color this image? Markers? It's really so beautiful.

i have always had an affinity for the greenman...
an almost erotic bond with him since i was a small
girl and learned of him from my welsh great gran and
has not abated with my eventual maturation, if anything
it has grown....
....the english music group..(who i also adore)
XTC says it so well in their song Greenman:

"Please to bend down for the one called the Greenman
He wants to make you his bride
Please to bend down for the one called the Greenman
Forever to him you're tied

And you know for a million years he has been your lover
He'll be a million more
And you know for a million years he has been your lover
Down through the skin to the core
Heed the Greenman
Heed the Greenman"

Very appealing image! It reminds me of something that the American cartoonist Frank Thorne might have come up with. By the way, the Green man wasn´t only endemic to European cultures, but he is significant in the Islamic world too; check out this web-page:

The Green man is called Al-Khidr/Al-Khizr in Arabic...please check out on this one!12
